There are many posts on this topic in the 80's forum, and in the outfitting forum. Do a search there, and you'll have days worth of posts to read. That's how I figured out what to do on both my cruisers...

i read the a few post and some full writeups lost tho im really bad at wiring i kinda need a step by step where each cable goes if not im lost lol any ideas? im good with mechanical but not wiring :D

only one way to become "good" at it....grab a wiring diagram, a multimeter, and dive right in ;)

with that LT-1 in the engine bay (no jealousy here, nope, none whatsoever--NOT!! :flipoff2:), you'll have plenty of room for your second battery, much more so than with the 2F so placement options will abound.

a great source for info on multiple battery setups and automotive wiring in general is a book entitled "Managing 12 Volts" by Harold Barre -- highly recommend it :D

they have to go in parallel. if you go series they are 24v....ouch.

so parallel means - to -, and + to +.

anything works. You just need to make a mount were you want to plunk the battery and then make some cross over cord.

the negative connection to the block and frame will come off one battery and the positive will come off the other.

its really simple.

You have to buy two batteries new at the same time. Big problems using an old with a new. One battery(fresh one) will get cooked being overcharged while the low battery will never get chanrged.

so buy the batteries you want. get some angle iron. best maybe 3/4 inch angle.

then make a little box. have it connect on the wheel well inner and have some support struts go up to the rad support frame. have some threaded rod in the front and the back of the frame, it will make for hold down.

cut a flat strap for the top and drill holes for the threaded rod.

go to napa and make some battery cable.

good luck.

It's not that much different than mechanical. Think of it as connecting tubing together.

Break the project into pieces to simplfy.
1. Decide which type of system you want to use.
2. Buy all the parts.
3. Install the second battery, battery tray and rad overflow bottle.
4. Install the solenoid (or whatever you decide to use) that splits the power between the two batteries.
5. Tape your wiring diagram onto the top of the aircleaner.
6. Following the wiring diagram, build and install each wire.

Drink beer afterwords.

There is a monster thread on this in OUTFITTING - also in the FAQ.

BOTTOM LINE = Do your home work before you decide. There are many nuances and opinions on this subject.

It's a little more than bolting in another battery tray. But when you do... go to stainlessbatterytrays.com

Noel makes a fine product.

Same here: dual Odysseys in parallel, no isolater or anything. Might add a swtich someday in case I want to disconnect one. Also got a Battery Brain to go on but haven't installed yet....

just only little thing ..

first time that I make my dual batt system, with warn isolator .. all functin fine .. no amazing .. until the first time that I use the Winch ..

hahahhahahahaa I got one warn melted isolator in my desk !

Other issue I preffeer make the - ( negative ) to the frame separated, each batt.

There is a guy on eBay that advertises Stainless ones also.

I bought one of these stainless trays the quality was top notch, Unfortunately I haven't seen them on ebay for a while and his user name (highdesertnevadan) hasn't see activity since July of last year.

sounds like running them in parallel with out an isolater sounds like the thing to do. Is there enough room in the stock location to fit both batteris or did you guys move them. How about to the rear?
