No, NO not just a monitor, display, control panel whatever a Full ON Ipad base system, no other stereo in the console kind of commitment..

Yes bummer, no steering wheel input for the volume, but the current alternatives are not so horrible..

We end up a Ipad family (I'm totally analog, maybe the reason why I'm asking) have all kinds from the useless GenI, mini's, pro's it will be great to run a mini for daily use since they kind of fit on the hole, but also nice to run the pro for long trips, just because is fun..

Shame I still need to run a Galaxy for the Torque app..

Note: A DVD reader will be nice if is not much to ask, they just don't have all movie in digital format (Plus I have a "Few" old ones too)

I'm just about to do a write up on this topic. I've been running iPad only for a long time.

iPad Dash Mount with Dual Ham Radio (video)

Gracias Robert, big honor, big fan of the ultra level of geekiness on your site..

Actually after seeing a video with Jonathan ward (I think, the brain from ICON) I got wondering about the ipad, then found your early video about the ipad, very useful.

I need to figure out all the electronic needs and gizmos, but I think the mounting system I have it cover, actually I'm kind of a "anti glare Nazi" and I plan to implement a "Alien forward mandibula" so the Ipad is going to come out of been right next to the dash to be position fully perpendicular to the drivers field of vision, well EYES (No followers, no sensors a simple 3 axis arduino board will do)

This is my current, crude and bulletproof set up, the Ipad arm is going to use the space left by the radio to install a sliding arm with a gimble at the front.

This crane has more than 2 feet of adjustability (Or it can be taking off in less than ten seconds) the Ipad will not need much more than 2 inches to accomplish a glare free viewing..

Thanks you, very useful reference..

You'll need a cellular capable iPad as they have the GPS chipsets in them. You can use an external GPS on a wifi only iPad but that just adds another device to manage.

A data plan is not required in any scenario but its a nice to have. AT&T charges me $10 a month for the data plan access and it comes out of the pool of phone data. You can hotspot from a phone but that can be very inconvenient - to me it's worth the 10 a month.

128 because that's what I have. you could prob get by with 32GB but you know... more is better. 64GB should be just fine. When these become dedicated to car duty you don't need Office on them or other productivity apps so consider the space saving there.

Glad I ask, case closed..

Money well spend..

well is a 64GB but is not a "Phone" one, I keep looking..

I already order the equalizer and looking for a good amp around craigslist for now..

Thanks again for all the help, makes such a massive difference, you have no idea..

Okay got a Amp. a "Infinity reference" series, good review, very clear sound, small and flat..

So what about the backup camera...?? Do they have a app for that or do I need a rear view mirror gizmo...??

On the Clarion state "1/2 DIN", can I insert it on the stereo slot (since my screen is going to move forward when in use, I will have access for it..

Sorry Robert...

I'm confused..

"iSimple JamLink Interface for iPad to RCA connection. Provides iPad charging and audio"

Audio, No video, how do I connect the "Video source" to the two kiddo ipads "Bluetooth"..??

(I already have one of those Blue tooth "Hot spots" with SD card HDMI connectors.)

The clarion will fit in the empty radio spot. I have mine in the armrest since my iPad covers the radio slot.

The iJam is audio only. The iPad does support video out via the lightning connector but you'll need a different interface cable... BUT the ipad doesn't support video in. So your dream of feeding other ipads from the main ipad is probably shattered :-) There may be apps and other ways to feed the video to other devices but it's not something that I do so I cant advise. I wouldn't get too worked up on that - i would load the kiddo ipads and let them have separate sources.

In regards to alerts - I turn off the audio alerts except for text messaging.

Got that...

Just making sure, placing it inside the hole will be perfect..

Do you know the model, they have so freaking many..??

Our older kiddo is very interested into maps/geography and location and it will be great if she can see what we see on the GPS Screen..

I got a "Hot spot" hub that is suppose Video to transmit the data from a SD cards or another computer, but I have no idea if I got the wrong thing..

I'm not worried is all a learning experience for me and I love to learn..

Yes for the most part that was the idea, except for movies with animals, facetime and family pictures, actually the video screens in the back will get very little use, only on really long trips and only part of the time..

Found most of the cables I need...

A set of Fostage 4'' mid's with the twits attach to it for the back door and tomorrow I'm getting some nice infinity 6.5 (I just hope they are not to big)

What I don't have stomach is for a lightning/RCA cable for $65 with the lightning cables fail all the time even the original from apple.. oh well I'm patient..

But I think I have the rest on the way or under my bed.

How about a Bluetooth to RCA adapter for streaming into the audio system and a semi-disposable USB to lightning cable for charging?

I like the way you think JLB, unless is a massive drop most components are going to be run wirelessly anyway..

semi-disposable...??

Like the cheapo ones from amazon that never really work..??
