Any ill effects to disconnecting the front drive shaft and running the center diff lock on a '92 FJ80? I've heard of people doing this to get off the trail before, basically short distance, but does this put any strain on the t case to run on the road?

I'm rebuilding the front axle with a new 3rd member, inner axle shafts, and birfs but I need to move the thing from where I have it sitting right now. I have it torn apart right now, I was thinking about putting the spindles back on and yanking off the front drive shaft just to transport the truck under its own power. Anything to worry about doing this?

This is essentially what all the part time kits do, for a short distance I see no problem. I ran and FJ40 with front drive only for about a month, sure steers funny!

Close up the hole in the drive flanges? Or are you going to have the 3rd and axles in?

I drove my '92 for a year without the front ds and the center diff locked without any problems. Make sure you don't accidentaly bump the switch, though...
