2004 GX470 with 140k, 2.5" OME lift and 33" tires.

Yesterday I swapped in new front rotors and brake pads (Napa rotors and Toyota pads). Took it for a ~30 minute pad bed-in drive followed by a few errands. Car felt great and the new rotors/pads definitely fixed my subtle brake shudder.

This morning on my drive to work I started feeling the "rumble strip" shudder at 20-25 mph. Fortunately my commute is super short so I parked it and took a look. Nothing visibly wrong. Thinking it might be something in the VSC / electronic system I disconnected the battery for the morning. Rumble vibration was still there during the drive home.

Observations:

Shudder starts around 15-20 mph. Haven't driven it faster than 25.

No steering wheel shake, no pulling to a side.

No shudder in park or neutral, even with engine revving.

No strange smells.

Still shudders coasting in neutral.

Transfer case seemed a little reluctant to shift between H and L

Is it time to flush the transmission? I crawled under the car during lunch and nothing seemed loose, wobbly or visibly broken. What are some other things I can check while the cars on jack stands? Thanks!

Search on t4r.org in the 4th gen section for rumble strips and read away.

Thanks, that was definitely helpful. It sounds like either the TC is acting up or a binding u-joint. I've been meaning to do a trans fluid exchange so I'll try that first before the drive shafts.

One AT drain and fill seemed to fix the problem for now. Will be doing a few more in the coming miles as the og fluid was GROSS

I had a similar symptom in my truck only apparent at highway speeds; bad wheel bearings. New hub assemblies from Blue Pit fixed it right up.

I had the same thing exactly as you described. I put through 2 gallons of new fluid (drain/fill) to get it flowing clean then added one tube of Shudder Fix. It's been over 50K miles now & the rumble hasn't come back.
