Revisiting my old fj60 brake booster prolem....Had to install fj60 booster into my 77ish pig in order to clear the carb cable bellcrank. I just mounted the pig MC onto the 60 booster(mistake???) it does stop, although it looses booster assist and even a bit of pedal if I'm on it for very long, or If I'm trying to brake at really lo rpms. I can push thru it and the brakes work, but it's kinda like going from power to manual brakes towards the end of the braking cycle. I did adjust the booster push nipple to match the depth of the OG booster. I also had to slice a bit more hole out of the booster input hole on the firewall to get the later booster in. This slightly offset the pushrod to brake pedal pivot hole, but not so much that it binds. I have read that the booster can be installed upside-down. Is this true? That might solve my offset pushrod angle. I am NOT certain that the booster is 100%, and I DO have the tiniest of leaks from the drum circuit pressure sender. Realizing that this post is already all over the place, let me narrow down my questions.....
1) can I run my 77 disk brake MC without the booster(MANual only)?
2)could the pushrod angle be causing booster leakage causing the diminishing assist?
3)Is my problem related to the mix match of the booster to the master?
4)does anyone have a tech write up that covers the 60 booster into a 55? Thanks.

if any one cares....it seems to be a bad booster, and yes it can be installed up-side down. haven't repaired it yet, but will plug the vacuum line and use manual brakeage for now.

final follow up, got an 86 4runner booster and master from TAP recycling for 55 bucks. hour swap at the most. Cut about 3/8" off the push rod, bolts right onto an unmodified firewall, does not need inverting although the vacuum inlet is at the left side of the master when facing it. some time bench bleeding, and the tinyest bit of gravity bleeding the lines and it stops NOW. they're not too grabby, but do bite a whole lot higher up the pedal stroke than ever before. this booster needs an in line type check valve that the d.bag @ tap was too busy to call out to the guy to remind him to get it, and too busy to be bothered with it later saying i could prolly get an aftermarket one, But I know picknpull had more than one of those things on any of the 15 camrys at the lot, so I'll get one tuesday. For now, I have found the solution to my problem. The old booster would leak a couple inches of vacuum upon braking and would not recover. It would not drop the pedal when engine was started, and would not come back up when engine was shut off. This one drops a couple inches and then recovers right away, drops pedal on engine start, and raises pedal on shut down. It also bought alot of real estate. brake lines must be bent duh./FIN

I just ordered a bunch of brake parts, for mine, but didn't get the booster. Is the FJ60 and 4runner's booster, the same. I'm useing a '95 T100 master and it will bolt up to the FJ60.

I might go to the pick n pull, to get it used and just looking at my options.

Thanks, Ron

I'll post a pic tomorrow. it is larger in girth, but it is much more slim. there is only about 1/16" between the booster and the clutch master res. as far as I know, all 4 bolt masters(toyota) will bolt up to any 4 bolt booster. I know the 96 runner would have bolted to the firewall, but it only had 2 bolts for the master.....
