High Desert Cruiser snow run today (four FZJ 80s, two FVJ 60s. You missed a good one C-Dan). My job, it seemed, was breaking trail through 3 feet of new powder. I worked the truck very hard, exceeded redline on the revs more than once, but boy does that truck run!
I discovered, however, the the transmission gearing kinda sucks. Running 33 inch MT/Rs and 4.56 gears, low range, often first gear was too low but second was way too high. So, to keep from bogging down, I kept it in first and blasted my way through, hence the over revs.
This large gap between first and second noticed by others?
Once highcentered, stuck, or otherwise not moving, in the process of rocking the vehicle back and forth by rapidly shifting forward to reverse, I wondered what I was doing to the transmission temps. The owners manual shows a trans overtemp warning light, however, I do not get such during the indicator light test sequence on startup. What’s with that? I’m also wondering if anyone is running a tranny temp gauge? If so, what and where.
