Ok, since we're in full hi-jack mode, do you guys know anywhere in greater Vancouver that actually has good mexican food?

Ya, but you have to do the dishes. ;)

Seriously, we have tried a number of places and have always been a bit disappointed. Most people think Mexican is TexMex and expect TexMex. Also, TexMex is easy and cheap to make. Some of the best Mexican flavours can be found at Poncho's on Denman: Ponchos Mexican Restaurant The owner is a 5 Star chef from Mexico. They are small and what they do make is excellent - despite lacking the street ingredients. The only complaint I have is that they do not serve tortillas with all their meals. All the other are the same. In Mexico, you sit down the hot fresh tortillas are on the table like salt and salsa.

BTW, if I ever get out on an overnight trail run. I will make Mole Poplano (sweet and hot) or a Mole Roja (salty and hot) one night for the crew. My Mole Roja has about 5 different peppers in it and if you want after burners, I can substitute a few chili morrons with chili habaneros. :bounce: :bounce2::bounce::bounce2::grinpimp:

"Viva Mexico" is decent, it's in Langley, not sure if John enjoyed the food there or not. Hard to have authentic Mexican without the ingredients.
GG

Yep, that was good too.

All the fresh ingredients are just south of the 49th. Cost Cutter in Bellingham has it all from fresh nopales ($1.29/1lb or less) to queso fresco. If you are ever down to SEATAC, stay on the 405 west just past the SEATAC exit. Where the freeway ends is the city of Bunen. Go past 1 st Ave S. and on the left you'll see a Staples. There are two supermarkets in there which have a very large selection of Mexican foods. I am sure if you snoop around any part of suberbia in Washington State you will find supermakets which cater to Mexicans and have all the ingredients of home - well almost all. Still haven't found one selling cow heads for tacos de cabeza - hmmmmmm! :D

Make sure you do that when I can attend!! I always have "Pollo con Mole" at least once when we drive through Mexico. Most folks cannot wrap their head around "spicy chocolate"! Like any Mexican food, it's different at every place you go to.

A little place in Steveston called Little Mexico is AWESOME.

Well this thread has sure taken a turn for the better ;)
I'd say Mole Roja (with a few habaneros) is as good a reason for an overnight run as any!

Funny, I just noticed Poncho's about a week ago and thought "I should really give that place a try sometime".

I'd love to get some mexican cooking chops together...

We also have a tentative BBQ for our next club meeting. I could do something for it. Phil probably could do it also. For your first afterburner experience, you might want a full service washroom near by.

Good stuff with Salsa Valentina. Also, those roast grasshopper are good and locally available. Rob had some at a meeting last year. But him and Mat were downing them with that lousy Tabasco souce.
