Thanks for the compliments guys. I've really been enjoying the heck outa this rig since it's completion.

Having owned a 40 with a SBC and sm465 and having driven a 2F'd 60 prior to buying mine, it was almost a no brainer decision for me. Knowing that the truck "needed engine work" when I bought it I had already made the decision, before making the purchase, that if I couldn't get the 2F running right in a weekend or two that I would pull the motor and go with a SBC.

After two weekends worth of tinkering I realized the 2F had 2 bad holes that were oil fouling on startup. Decision made...

For my personal needs and style I couldn't have made a better choice. The idea behind the rig for me is exactly as Dirtgypsy called it. I often refer to the 60 as the "Family Truckster". I wanted a rig that I could load up the family, drive 500 miles, camp for a week, wheel, and drive home. SBC's are practically a dime a dozen, I can do most of the work on it myself and anything I can't do I'd almost be hard pressed to find a mechanic who couldn't. I can buy parts at damned near any corner coveinience store on a Sunday in Deer Nuts, Idaho, and with proper PM I should have no problem getting 250k out of it.

With the 700R4 and 4.88's on 33's the gearing is PERFECT and the truck will cruise 80 on the hiway at 2800 rpm. I can't even begin to tell people how perfect it feels just cruisin down the road in this truck.

How did you fish the wire up to your Hella map light. Do you like where it's located?

Great rig!!

It's actually low enough that I just dropped it right down between the dash and the A pillar. With the dash mat you don't even see it there. You could however drill the extra hole and fish it down from that point without it being too much of a problem as the pillar opens up about 6" down from that point. My CB antenna coax runs down the drivers A pillar and out under the dash and that gave me zero problems to speak of.

The mounting location of the map light is good. I haven't used it a ton yet but being that it's a 24" stem I can REALLY move it around and put the light pretty much anywhere I want in the front area of the truck. I'm thinking about another one at the C pillar on the driver side that I could use for the back seats and rear compartment. I would most likely mount that one about 1/2 way up the pillar though and place the clip on the header above the Dside rear door, which would put a 90 degree (ish) bend about half way up the flexible stem. This would allow me to reach back w/ my left hand over my head to flip on the light and pull the head out over the back seat as needed from the drivers position. Did that make sense?

Yeah Ronnie, it was a good time. We need to get together to get these bumpers and sliders banged out bro. Come out to the meet this friday night!

Nice Rig. I'm digging that V8. How does she sound?

The dual band is cool. I'm not licensed yet so I mostly use CB but when I need the 2M it's good to have. It's been modded for extended Rx and Tx to talk on the "race" channels which is what the original purchase was for. The 440 is cool to have too. Eventually I'd like to get a quad band to have the access to everything that's out there. I figure that the more coverage I have the better off I am in an emergency.

As far as the 0-60 times and whatnot... this truck won't ever win any drag races, unless I'm racing pretty much any Land Cruiser with a stock motor, but it's got plenty of power to get out of it's owns way when it needs to. 100+ on the hiway... no problem. Not that I drive 100 but it'll do it if I needed to. Exhaust is rams horns to 2.5" two into one into a 2.5" hi-flo cat to a single Flowmaster 40 series. It sounds GREAT. It's got that small block through a Flowmaster sound that is simply unmistakeable to me. Not to loud but deffinately a V8. It's funny how many people ask about the truck because they hear that "not a straight six" sound when I pull into a gas station or a parking lot.

Speaking of gas stations, in the nearly 3k miles I've got on the conversion I'm averaging about 16.5mpgs so far which is right smack in the middle of where I wanted to be with this thing. I can't really complain too much about that now can I?

YOURE THE ONE!
That 1/4 chop was a HUGE inspiration to me in doing mine.
I opted for the "flat belly style", but none the less...that guy did one KICK ASS JOB on it.
Love the rig and mods, especially the V8. Id love to do that to mine one day.
How much did you pick the cruiser up for?
That is one nice looking 40 too.

BTW, is that a tue of KY in your center console!?:grinpimp:

Toothpaste, not Kentucky jelly, but damn that was funny as s***. Damn near shot rockstar out my nose on that one.

I bought the truck originally for $3200, a good buy in my book. I figure I'm sitting at about $9-10k total investment right now. At that money I feel I'm ahead of the curve for now. I've got about another $5k on my wish list for perfection.

Looks good. I like it.

How is the front lunch box locker in there?
I didnt see it in your write up, but did you run longs?
Do you ever get any vapor lock with the throttle body injection? Not sure if its possible or not...
Why did you elect to go with a TBI vs a multi port fuel injection
Consdiering an engine route, but the Vortec install is pretty spendy when all is said and done.

I really dig the rig. 3200.00 is a STEAL, engine work or not.
I got my tub for 2500.00 and seeing some of the rigs that others pick up for that, or a bit more...Im thinking I could have gotten mine for less.

As for The tube in your console...Looked just like the tubes of KY we use here at work. Thought it was kinda funny.

the locker has been fine so far. Being that I have ARB's in the 40 I thought I wouldn't like the lockrites but the haven't bothered me yet.

You a proctologist or one of those freaky deeky masuses that I always hear about on the 10 oclock news?

You know what... don't answer that.

Did you notice a decrease in your turning ability with the locker in the front?
I was casing out the ARBs for the front, but...if I could get away with using an auto up front, I wouldnt be opposed to going that route. It would save some major coin. I could go with longs and the locker and still come out ahead for the price of the ARB and longs.

Nope...not a proctologist or "freaky deeky"...Im an RN in surgery (close enough to freaky deeky I suppose...):D. However, we do ass cases that require the used of the ole KY lube. Its also used routinely for catheter insertions and urologic procedures in general.

Yes, there's a difference with 4wd engaged but it is not a HUGE one. It's more like one of those "I can just tell" things, if you know what I mean. I've never gone out in a empty lot and checked the truth though. If I had personally built the axles I would at a minimum have an ARB up front and most likely both ends. That's simply mY personal prefference though. I've always enjoyed the ability to turn my 40 on a dime unlocked, then switch to locked as I see fit. With the extended wheel bease of the 60 compared to the 40 I see it as even more advantageous.

nice.... I wish I had been able to find a TBI setup before I went with the vortec....could have saved some major $$$, and been a lot simpler to screw with. Looks good.

Thanks.

That's kinda the way I saw it too. The TBI was really a super easy install. I bought the complete motor and trans with all of the accessories and the ECM with harness for $750. Sent the motor and trans out for rebuilds and then did the install. I had the stock GM harness for the ECU but all the wires were a little crispy and not super clean around the edges and all the sensor clips were a little tired and whatnot. I went to Affordable Fuel Injection and bought their harness for around $275 and wired everything up with that. It was damn near a plug and play deal. Only had to hook like 3 or 4 wires into the stock harness.

I spent a week chasing what I thought was bad injectors when I was first trying to fire the rig, but that turned out to be an unplugged connector. She's been running strong ever since.
