Not as big as you might think, lol. It's close enough that I can reach my hand out the driver's window and touch the garage support beams. Maybe 2" of clearance? Remember, close only counts with horse shoes and hand grenades:D

Haha true that. Do you people look at you weird when you are on campus? I get some looks here and there. People don't walk out in the street in front of me thats for sure.

 Sometimes I do. Because this is an engineering school, there are a decent amount of gearheads on campus, along with a bunch of offroaders, mostly jeeps though.

Haha, my school is a commuter school so there are very few trucks and 4WD vehicles. Half of the cars here I could probably get a tire up on their hood. :D

Don't worry I live on campus :)

Thanks twstrchasr!

great write up with pics kline. although your twin brother has a sweet ride, i'd bet 10 years from now he won't have that car anymore...you on the other hand:p i hope to someday pass the cruiser on to my son. cheers:beer:

This was fun having a ROTM.

I leave you guys with the grand finale.

I just ordered a Lock Right Locker and a set of Rock Sliders for Lonestar Jamboree :D

I'll be sure to keep this thread updated like others have done

Strange coincidence, i just ordered an Aussie locker and have been trying to muster the courage to buy some sliders.

I had the money so I decided to go for it. I've never welded before but I have a friend with a welder. Trail-Gear sliders are really cheap. $140 for a set. Shipping was $50, but in comparison to Man-A-Fre for their sliders ($750) it is a steal.

Yep that's true. I got mine through a vendor on another forum. I don't have a 220 welder but my dad's friend does. So I figure that'll be a good xmas project.

Got the sliders on! 67" Sliders from Trail-Gear. They would fit better without the mudflaps, but I like my them too much :D

I don't have time to paint or a place to paint until I'm home in Belton, but I have them coated in WD40 until then!

My friend did the welding, wish I knew how. It was fun to watch though. I made most of the cuts on the main tubes and gussets with an angle grinder.

Hope you guys like!

Locker should be here today. That will get installed in Belton too.

Looks good, can't wait to weld mine on over winter break.

You probably should have welded them to a scab plate, then to the frame. that way it disperses the load better and doesn't cause quite as much frame flexing.

Those look pretty sweet Klinetime574 - looks like they should hold the weight too. I'm wanting to build a set similar to that for mine, but with the U-Clamp setup.

Having the time and space/equipment to do it, is another story altogether though!!!

Good way to keep that rig mint until you decide to hand it down again!!!

I was advised against scab plates, gussets would be less effective.

Besides what crazy person would take these things off?

And they do hold the weight, I jacked up the truck on the outermost part of the slider and it did not even flex, got both passenger side tires just off the ground, the floorjack reached its max height :D

And just for reference the front of the slider is 18" off the ground the rear sits at 19"

They run pretty parallel to my body.

And of course this being my first fabrication... haha

Gorgeous Cruiser. My dad bought an '82 in '87. He sold it when I was 7. I wasn't too happy about that and bought my own '82 when I was 16. 6 months into it, a drunk driver ran me off the road and I rolled... Hoping I can get another after I graduate. Looking at a HJ61 when they're legal to import in 2012. Hope to pass it down to my son.

I thought that it was advised to run scab plates? Who told you otherwise?

Just asking as I thought the opposite of what you did was the way to do it.

Scab plates would have been nice, but once you're under the truck you change your mind. I really didn't see the point. If you ever had to grind them off the scab would be left. So either way its a pain in the butt thats why they are never coming off. :D

I really see no structural benefit to a scab plate. And unless I'm gonna be grinding and re-welding sliders every week the scab plate serves no purpose for me.

Gotcha. I have never welded sliders onto my truck but I thought the purpose was to distribute the weight better. Either way, if you tested it and it works, it's difficult to argue with that.

Looks great man:cheers:
