I got some HID's from DDM Tuning. Went with 35W 6000K H4 Hi-Lo. Installed them in my Autopal housings that I got off of ebay.

I was surprised with the results. I thought it was going to be blinding, just from standing next to it, but on the road the vision is good, and I have yet to be flashed or honked at yet. I'd say I've passed about 40 cars or so. I honestly think that a 2011 Escalade will blind you worse than my cruiser would. I get blinded by those and I'm relatively high on the road.

Both headlights seem to have a cut-off from 180 degrees though 360 and up to about 15 degrees. So 180-375 degree light pattern. Pretty good if I say so myself.

The Kit.

My high beam indicator doesn't work I assume that is because of the switched ground, which I am no longer using?

How could I get it to work?

Lemme know what you think.

Thanks!

Got my Lockright installed. Pretty straightforward. Hardest part was getting the PS C-Clip in through the little gap. But after some cussing it went right in.

I had a few very small metal pieces come out, nothing big. Gears looked nice and clean. Fluid was dark and stinky. No idea how long its been in there.

Used a Toyota gasket, and Black RTV on both sides of it. Torqued it to ~9 ft/lbs. No Leaks! Thanks to Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters for the gasket!

Here are some pictures!

Moved the e-brake cable out of the way.

The locker in the carrier. Little tiny thing haha

Tested good with the rolling tire test. Filled it up. Drove it back to my Moms. Its a lot quieter than I thought it would be. I haven't made a u-turn yet. But I did notice some slight pulling. All normal according to the manual.

I'm happy with it :D

Nice to hear it went smoothly for ya. I still have to find time (and heat) to put my Aussie in. Did you drop the 3rd or just install while it's in the housing?

Just while its in the housing. There is no reason to take out the third member to put in a Aussie or Lockright. I don't know how to do that anyway haha

I love my HID's I'll never go back ... but I did have to rewire mine to get the Hi/Low to work

Yeah thats what I meant :D

How did you do so?

I wired the hot to the ground and used the ground to switch it .... backwards of a normal wiring job not hard once I figured out Toyota use a ground for switching

Nice work!! like the HID's.

im in the market for a locker now.. any reason you went with Lock Right vs. an Aussie?

I have a friend that has had one in an FJ40 for like 6 years and no issues :D

Sounded good to me!

does sound good. have you heard of any issues with the Aussie?

Nope, there are threads about Lockright vs. Aussie. You could read them all day, but they both work well it sounds like. Also they are about the same price.

I have never seen photos of the two compared. I wonder if the Aussie looks any different in the axle than the Lockright.

yeah ive heard nothing but good things about both. figured i'd ask ya tho

back at ya

I'll try to remember and snap a pic of mine when I throw it in there.

Only reason I went with Aussie was because I found it for cheaper than I could get a Lock-rite....other than that, i wasn't biased one way or another, because they're both good.

One more locker question for ya Kline. When you took off the C-clips, did you have to remove the drum brake or were you able to get it off without much disassembly?

SO you can install the locker from the back of the diff without messing with pinion bearing pre-load/etc.??? Sounds easier than I expected. Any special tools or pullers needed?
