Rotella T syn. isnt a true pao synthetic.It is nothing more than hydrocracked dyno. So for all of you who thought it was a bargain compared to a true synthetic such as Delvac 1 you arent getting a deal. Yes,Rotella "synthetic" is a decent oil but to call it synthetic is deceptive and stems from a court decision that a few big oil companies won(Castrol "syntec"). You will notice that I did not endorse any particular brand of true synthetic oil so please dont accuse me of being an oil rep. Im just a farmer with alot of equipment that decided to look past the hype and tested various oils in my stuff.There are a few oils that can stand up to the drain intervals that they claim is possible.I would certainly use Rotella T "synthetic" if it was a PAO synthetic.

Nothing new to me. I'll still continue to run it and change it at 5k miles. It's a hydrocracked oil but it still meets the same specs as required as a true synthetic. It may breakdown sooner after the required specs than a true syn but then again I never take my oil that long anyway and I don't know nary a sole that takes their syn to true extended intervals anyway.

The one I've seen at Crappy Tire here has "SB" on it which I took to mean a synthetic blend.

Simon, I've never thought that Rotella T was synthetic. I use it, when I'm in Canada, but with the usual 5k drain intervals. There is a Rotella SB which perhaps is what you're thinking of and that is clearly stated as a "Synthetic Blend" and not a true synthetic.
I would not go to an extended drain interval on a diesel, even with a synthetic, unless you change the filters on the normal interval because of the soot buildup.
