Changing the oil in my FJ40 and having some fuel delivery issues has me in the habit of popping off the oil cap and smelling for heavy fuel vapors. I have used Shell Rotella 15w40 for the past 2 years in the 80 w/o issue. Changed it yesterday with new filter and fresh oil and double checked the level today after driving it. Oil level was good, popped off the cap expected to smell that "fresh" oil smell and it smelled like ether or something similarly pungent. Is this the detergents in the oil cooking off? The engine temp was normal, although the valve cover was very hot to the touch - too hot to keep my hand on it (normal I guess). Did some research and apparently some diesel owner complain that Rotella "stinks" for the first couple hundred miles. Anyone have a similar experience with the funky smell?

now THIS is funny

Is there a market for sented oil, i.e. lemon, spice, pine, etc?
