What is the best deal for a decent Roof rack?

I doesn't have to be crazy duty
Just looking to get my spare, hi-lift
and some spare axles up there
and maybe a jerry can (gerry?)

I have looked at Surco's, Defenders, Thules and ARB's

just wondering if anyone has good or bad experiences
with any of these or specific recommendations
Thanks for your time

I'm running the Surco with the spare attachment. As you stated, it's not crazy duty and has a pretty decent droop to it with my 33x12.5. But it is working, and not hitting the roof. If you get the spare mount, ditch their nuts and grab some nylon ones, I had two back off the bolts in the first day or two.

Also, do a full search on the attachment, I found prices ranging from $84-$119. After I figured in shipping vs. taxes the local 4wheelparts store was still the best deal.

This was an inexpensive solution and I feel much better having the spare out of the cabin with my 1 yr old sitting just in front of the tire resting loose in the back.

Thanks for this discussion......

I have been leaning towards the ARB- i like the lines- but the atv ramp setup looks good and durable. I mainly will have camping gear/ canoe on it.

Sooooo spendy
Expensive but very strong. There is a guy selling one on the parting out forum right now. I have had the ARB rack for about 7 years now. It has carried an incredible amount of weight. I have had 8 people standing on it at one time. It is crazy duty. For my 100, I am looking at Surco as I need it to carry lights, ARB, shovel, that kind of stuff.

yeah

It is a one time purchase, that is how I justified it to myself. I have had it on two different trucks now and if I ever get an 80 series it can go on that also.

That's

That's how I'm trying to justify Over/Underdrive gears from Marks for my transfercase.

Check it

Landcruiser Gears

option 4- 8% Overdrive 2H 55% underdrive 4LOW

Tapage runs them

They are spendy but everything stays in stock position plus its the best of both worlds, a lil faster in 4th and creepier in 4LOW.

Driveshafts remain same length, no new crossmembers. If one already has 4:11's such as I do....This is the ticket.

Spectre sells em, although at the moment I can't find that link

spendy, but cheaper than a 5 speed and you get some top end improvement. Definitely cheaper than the toybox for a significant improvement. Hmmm...

Hi-Jack over.

gears...

8% overdrive would drop me below the 2500 mark at 70mph... interesting....

EDIT: hijack back on, over again....

ahhh

I do think that would help, did a little digging a while back and found this link for someone that modified theirs.

planetisuzoo - Reinforcing the Surco Safari Roof Rack

Also, you may be better off with your 35s over my 33 because the weight will be more evenly distributed.

That was a cool link

although I might do half as many added crossmembers and floor with diamond tread aluminum
