The past few days I have pulled my cam shaft to replace my timing plate gasket. Ive got a question about my re-asembly:

I have bolted my Rocker arm assembly back on, some of the push rods are super tight, while others are loose. Before I start the motor, I should loosen all of them to prevent any damage, right? Ive looked, but can't find any numbers on setting them cold.

FYI I have never adjusted valves before so this entire process is a learning experience.
 
Adjust your valves to spec which is .008” intake and .0014 exhaust before starting. Once warm, recheck and adjust as necessary.

It’s actually very easy to do.
 
Thanks, so I am okay to use the "warm" gap as a baseline when cold? Then once Im ready to get the motor running I can come back and verify.
 
Yes! And on mine I have found they change very little if at all from cold to hot.

Did you only pull the lifter cover and rocker arm assembly to get the lifters out? No other complications rotating the crank to push the lifters up, etc.? I'm hoping it's as "simple" as removing the rocker arm assembly and pulling the push rods? And how awkward was it carefully pulling that long camshaft out? Thanks
 
Yes. Pull the entire RA assembly as one piece. I used a piece of tape to pull each lifter out, then placed in a numbered sheet of cardboard. Pulling the cam shaft was little weird, but just wear gloves (for grip) and slide it out. I didn't have any problems. Use assembly lube when putting it back together.

Thanks for the quick reply! Really helpful to get a little feedback! Did you pull plugs to make the crank easier to turn?
 
The distributor drives the oil pump, so confirm that the distributor is fully seated. When first started confirm oil pressure, if none, turn if off and rectify.
