This rig was built by a local cruiser legend and his son here in Utah. No expense was spared and it is perfect for rock crawling and adventures. I'm going to upgrade to a 100 or 200 series for a bit more refinement as I plan on driving more than 20k miles for an around the world adventure.

Back in Black... kind of...

Okay, so we made it back in one piece and none-to-worse for the wear. The trip was EPIC. The video below gives a good idea of what we went through:

http://youtu.be/oqVlviW343s

Mongolia was insane, 2,000 miles of dirt roads, rivers, swamps, camels, gurs/yurts and 1,000,000 horse flies and mosquitoes.

Per this thread: I'm thinking about selling the 80 as it's built for rock crawling and even though it was rock solid during the trip I think I'll be building a 100 for our Tip2Toe (top of Alaska to bottom of South America) event which we're planning on doing in the Summer of next year (2014).

Rigs are still in US customs/quarantine but I hope to have them back by the end of the month! I'm going to have Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters give it a thorough going through before I sell it, so it will be in tip top condition (and how many other rigs out there have been around the world?)

HOLY CRAP! rigs just got out of customs / quarantine...

Lucky for us (and I'm being sarcastic) the US customs people decided to to their most evasive review of our container and vehicles. The additional $5,000 dollar fee for that "service" didn't include the additional $3,300 fee they then hit us with to "clean and decontaminate" the vehicles.

It turns out our shipping company drove the the rigs through some mud puddles before loading them into the containers.

The good news is that they will be back home by the end of the week and off to Cruiser Outfitters for a once over. I'll then post more pics and respond to the PMs.

Nice truck, and great video! I'm interested to know what changes you would make to make this vehicle more overland friendly and less like a rock crawler? Looking to do the same trip so any advice much appreciated.

The rigs are arriving tomorrow and are being delivered straight to my mechanic. Once they clear mechanical they'll be sent up to Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters for any additional work.

I should have the 80 ready to sell by Nov 10th. I'll put up some new pics then.

I can't wait to start building a 100 for the Tip2Toe Rally. Having driving almost 11k miles across Europe and Asia I have a very specific list of needs and wants. Once we start the build, I'll put up a thread to show what mods, I'm going to do.

Back up for Sale...

Okay so I've been off the grid for the last six months but I'm bringing this beauty back on the market. I'm going to be dropping her off to Kurt at Crusier Outfitters this week so that he and his team can get her into tip top condition for the sale. I've told Kurt to do everything necessary to make sure this vehicle continues to be rock solid for the new owner. For those of you who don't know Kurt he's the "go to" Cruiser guy for most of us in the Western US. In fact, Greg Miller (who owns more than 50 car dealerships) uses Kurt to work on his personal Cruisers.

Also this rig can do wonders for your love life and the timing couldn't be better. In case you really screwed up your valentines gift, this would be a prefect way to make it up to your spouse, significant other or girlfriend. Even better, if she's not into TLCs there are plenty of the fairer sex who are, and this vehicle will speak to those females, if you know what I mean.

Also, if your puchase of this rig really turns out badly, this vehicle is incredibly comfortable to sleep in. I spent many a night in the back with only a thin pad and light sleeping bag during our trek through Europe, Russia and Mongolia. It really is a dream vehicle.

I'm having the wrap taken off and we lost the glasses in Mongolia but I'm thinking of keeping the window stickers as they are cool and show the route this rig has been on. I don't know of any other rigs out there that come with this type of provenance. It has been around the world and the pictures show it (I'll add them later today). here is the video of the adventure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqVlviW343s

Price is $16,000. I'll be adding it to eBay at the end of the day. If you have questions let me know. Mileage is at ~211k

Great question. It was probably the most exciting thing that happened to us on the expedition and I've cut the following from my blog that describes that day.

"Mongolia 1, team Charity Vision 0. Upon arriving in Mongolia spirits were high and we were ready to take on the world. That was yesterday. Today we're waiting in line to have repair work done to the 80 series land cruiser.

Yesterday started great as we headed out to take the Northern (less traveled) route to Ulaanbaatar. What we didn't know then was that "less traveled in Mongolia" means "not passable" everywhere else in the world.

We had to turn back after 8 hours of extremely rocky terrain, swamps and ultimately deep, fast rivers. We had forded over a dozen 2-3 foot rivers but the 13th would have done us in.

With gas tanks about half full we decided to turn back, tail between our legs, and head back to Olgii. It got exciting about 100 kilometers out, as the guys in the 80 noticed the smell of fuel and when they looked at the gas gauge it was down to 1/8 of a tank (having driven only 20 miles). Steve pulled it over and when we popped the hood and started the engine, fuel sprayed from the engine block. Steve quickly realized the pressurized fuel line had ruptured. This is something he'd never seen or even heard of happening.

By the grace of God, Steve somehow worked gorilla glue a sleeve made of a spare line and a clamp into a fix that lasted until we got back to town. We're now waiting on the local mechanic to fix it up with proper parts. Luckily every third vehicle here is a TLC so we're in good hands.

Two days ago I was wondering if two built Land Cruisers were a bit much for this adventure, turns out Mongolia really is the Wild West and can dish out much more than it takes.

Who is your mechanic?

I live in Utah county and need a good cruiser mechanic.

Is this rig still available for sale? I'm a very serious buyer and would like to discuss purchasing your rig. I was referred by a local guy who is friends with Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters. Hope to hear back from you soon.

updated pics

Here are some pics now that the detail and decal removal are done. I'm gonna miss this rig!

Kurt has to re-install the front bumper as I just had it powered coated but then it's off to the new owner (hopefully).

Wish I could have gotten on this one. Man. GLWS!

I'm working on the details with the buyer but no money has traded hands yet. I pick up the rig from Kurt this week then will hope to finalize the deal.

Now to find the perfect 100 series to build... let the fun begin!
