Hi guys,
I have recently taken a hiatus from toyota stuff so I havent posted in a long time now but I have an opertunity that is pulling me back into the swing of things.
My friend who knows I am a toyota fanatic worked things out to gift me her familys 2wd hilux.
Its a 79 and seems to be in fantastic condition. It was my friends parents first vehicle purchased together after getting married, and the first vehicle either of them had ever bought new.
It has sat for years now but the owner still gives it bi-weekly car washes and starts it up regularly.
Of course there is a catch. I live in boston and the truck is in San Francisco.
So the rough plan is to ship him a new set of fuel lines, a gas tank, and a radiator. Fly out this summer with tools in my carry on, and re do anything fluid related at their house then drive it home.
So I have some questions for you guys and gals:
1) I have a couple 22r carbs in my stash of parts and I could rebuild them and purchase the lc engineering swap kit to bolt a 22r carb onto a 20r engine.
I hesitate to go this route as it seems like it might complicate things if I start having carb issues.
What thoughts do you guys have? Should I try to get my hands on another 20r carb and rebuild that?
2) Does anyone have any experience with 20r carb rebuild kits?
3) Dors anybody have any experience driving a 20r at high altitude?
Gonna have to drive this thing over the rockies and it seems like toyota doesnt supply a high altitude kit for the 20r carb.
4) Any suggestions in general? I am still planning this and would apreciate any input.
This forum has previously been very suppotrive, so i feel thanks in advance are apropriate!
Heres my teaser of the Hilux!
