New trails and great conditions so far

We held our 3rd Annual Christmas Tree Run today and got a chance to play in the freshly fallen snow. Weather was awesome, blue skies & crisp. Saw two moose and broke trail for most of the day through 1 to 2 feet of snow. Awesome.

There has been much activity in the last few years to get old trails reopened. Here is the proof of success. These signs went up this weekend. Congrats to all the volunteers that made this possible. WE HAVE FRESH TRAILS for RS2010.

Would a stock vehicle have a tough time on these trails?

My 2 cents, is no. In fact, with a stock truck you'll have more fun. I have driven all of the existing trails and the majority of the newly reopened trails in my stock BJ42 on AT tires when the truck was running. I drove out the other day in a mostly stock FJ45, albeit on 34" MT tires and a mild frame lift.

The challenge is mostly provided by deep snow (if we are lucky) and / or ice on the North facing hills. A winch is a good idea but we usually end up using a strap. There will be enough winch equipped trucks to get people out of trouble.

If you have anything resembling slicks, chains are probably a good idea but the challenges then become easy.

As a note of caution, if you have a pretty truck, depending on the conditions, the trail you try and your skill, it might be an itsy bitsy less pretty at the end ;). It is 4 wheeling after all. There will likely be alternate routes & trails for the weekend and we will try to ensure everyone is aware of the challenges of any particular trail. You don't have to put it all out there. I don't recall the last time anyone damaged their truck badly on these trails and if it occurs, it's usually down to driver error. It can however happen.

I did RS 07 and 08 unlocked with 29" ATs and a pair of chains. Like Jim says, it adds to the fun. :hillbilly: I needed the strap in the same place both years, where it drifts deep and I just didn't have the clearence to make it through without plowing.

One month to go to the coolest TLCA event this year!

One month to go and participants will be awaking to a reveille RMLCA style and a sumptuous breakfast!

Preparations are well underway, we have some cool sponsors (read raffle prizes) starting to come in and WE HAVE NEW TRAILS this year. After much volunteer effort by the local 2WD & 4WD off-road community, there are a number of new trails and we will be using them for River Shiver.

Remember, it's not just the trails that are of interest, it is the camaraderie, new friends, old friends, who could forget the food and, if we are as successful as in past years, we are certainly near the top of the heap with raffle prize value per number of participants.

We still have a few spots remaining. Get in before the mad rush for those last spots and before it's too late (we sell out every year)!

Hope to see you there.

When you graduate from college do they give you back all the money that you spent on your education???

I can't feel too sad about not getting to go this year though, I AM plus a Moose :bounce2:

Still a few spots open. Register while you can and before you regret not attending. We are going out Sunday to survey another trail...

I would love to attend this event but as usual I have no truck finished, maybe next time around.
