Just a heads up that RML is shut down for the year till we can get all the guard rail put up. No Kodak Rock. :bang: :bang: :bang:

Is it really going to take us a year to put it up?

This is going to be terrible. That portion of RML and daniel is really all uwharrie has to offer for ''serious'' wheeling. It's going to cause all the action to shift to daniel, where rigs will break and no bypass to get around (on the ledges, not the uphill rock garden). As I said on nc4x4, when trails close, they usually are not opened back up.

WE can get it opened back up like i said on NC4x4, but it is going to take work, so how bad do you want to wheel it. I am nice on NC4x4 but not so much over here, so, i am going to say what i want, and that is.

Are you going to sit back and wait for someone else to do something or are you going to help us out ????   The USFS can see us complain all day long, but until we put our sweat where our mouth is then this is what it is going to do for you.

The USFS has put the ball in our court, we can chose right now to do the right thing or just complain on a forum. If we chose to just sit, then expect it to be another Tellico.

What exactly have they found up there?? As always with them it seems to be hush hush.

If we are having to guardrail about a mile of trail on both sides and it is obvious that it is the ATV/dirtbike crowd that is causing this by cutting trails why doesn't the UFS just kick them out???

If its for fear of lost $$$ i'd gladly pay twice as much for a season pass and day pass to keep this crap from happening over and over.

I know there are many that are afraid of it not opening again and I think that they have great reason to with the UFS track record in that area and others of re-opening closed trails.

Is there any guarantee that if us and others from NC4x4 put in the hundreds - more likely thousands of man hours that the trail will reopen??

I'm going to be at all the work weekends I can this year, I hope it is all for nothing though.

Well said Darin, although I'm guilty. I'm working on things so that I can get back involved, no excuses, guilty as charged...:whoops:

Agreed. Why are you being nice over on NC4x4 and not here? You've seen us on the trails as well as how everyone here bags trash and always leaves the trail better than we found it. I agree something needs to be done, but lets put the focus where it needs to be. I've yet to see anyone in this group riding off the designated trails or leaving trash or showing any destructive behavior. I cannot say the same about the guys over at NC4x4. It's pretty obvious why most of us are members of that forum but never post there. Bunch of irresponsible assclowns that I don't care to associate with.

I'd love to make more work days but with a full time job and three small kids it's not easy. That's why I spend extra time cleaning up all the trails while I'm there. I buy a season pass when I rarely go enough to justify the cost just to put more money into the forestry service. It may not mean much to them but I feel like I am trying. Seems like we get beaten up over participation or the state of affairs on the trails, yet we take better care of it than anyone else.

Not exactly hush hush, they just publish it in a huge environmental impact document that most people don't didn't read. I posted it a while back, and encouraged people to send comments to the FS. Not sure if anyone took my advice or not...

My previous post was directed at the people that just complain about stuff but do not come out to the workdays when they happen.

So, do not take it personal unless you are one of them. This is a public forum and i have told a few non ONSC people about this thread.

I don't remember seeing anything in it about Indian artifacts being found near rml..... But it was a while ago and I may have missed it, or I am thinking of something completely different. The hush hush part was the fact that I asked quite a few of the ufs people about it on Saturday but they would not elaborate on any of it.

Everyone. They do not want to say alot of stuff to alot of people out there cause they are affraid more people will go in there looking for this stuff. Then it really will get shut down for good.

I am still waiting on the proper info from Terry up there as to what it will take to get it opened back up.

Thanks for waiting.

I know and in not blaming them really, other than not banning quads, I know this all came from ATL and they are being hush hush about it for those reasons. The only problem with this is to outsiders it seems like they don't want to say much because it is gone for good. If they said this thing will open up as soon as the combined 2 miles of guardrail is in it would be done in two work weekends.

Yeah, we could of gotten a good start on it on Saturday, instead of 12 people watching one guy drill holes in the guardrails...

This.

When is the next work day? While working on Wolf's Den trail is well and good, I'd rather work on RML to get this section opened back up.

When is the next work day, at the Jamboree?

Look guys. Chill out. I still do not have confirmed word from Terry about what it will take to open it up. So in the mean time CTF Out. I know for that day the USFS did not have the material to do it. And they might not for a bit. It costs money of which they have non. It is a temp thing I Know at this time. Everybody has their panties in a wad , I have shut down more trails up there than there still are open. If I am not worried about this one then you should not be either.

They will not go a workday on opening weekend. Too much other stuff going on for them. It is posted on the schedule when the next one is.

This is what I suspected. Rich Mountain Road in the Chattahoochee was shut down NE of Atlanta due to lack of maintenance by the FS AND the fact that there were Native American burial sights along the road / trail. IMHO, the real reason was the latter and the fact that unscrupulous people found out about the sights and ....

My thoughts on that process are in the public record given the 5 page letter I wrote as a part of my comments almost a decade ago.

Here is the latest news from Terry. An email will be going out soon to all clubs and then i or someone else can also post that info on here.

From speaking to her tonight here is what i was told.

We are waiting on a few things right now to see how we will go forward. Right now there are about 4 options on the plate. Before we can go forward as a group the USFS has to have their engineer / arch person to come in and see how we can go forward. Found out we put some guard rail up in the wrong place also. It has been talked about going around that area but the money to do that is not there. The best option out there right now is to put up the guard rail, but as of right now we do not have enough, so we can do some here soon maybe if they say we can go forward with that option. The other option is to have a contractor do the work, but again it comes down to money. RIGHT now the closing down permanently is not on the table, but we have to wait on the person from Atlanta say the final say.

So, BLUF ( bottom line up front ) we are waiting on the USFS have some people go thru there and figure out the best option of keeping it open. That is why we did not do anymore work on it this last workday when we had all the people out there to be able to accomplish the most.
