I'll be there with the chitlin and the critter.

Umm, I want to make it. I need to think some things out. I have a job to finish, and my mom went to the hospital tonight. I will see how things work through the nite and see what I need to do. Don't know for sure. Cell phone will be on, and I will listen through ham.

Sorry to hear about your mom. We'll call you on the cell or the radio before we head out into the boonies.

Great day exploring the area North of our frequent route back to the rock play area. Ali and Isabelle, Evan and Chris, Mike and Rusty, Paul in his Isuzu VX, Steve in his 4R, and Jon in da40 for a brief time.

Someone post pics if ya got em.

Touche, i guess I did miss something. Glad it wasn't just for work. Luckily my mom only broke some ribs. The hardest part is that she is so stuborn, that she would want to go out on her own and finish a few things. At her age, she can't do that.

So how did the Cross-thing perform?

Very well. We didn't do any rocks but the truck is narrow and has a short wheelbase. No front or rear overhang, good break-over angle. Kinda like having a modern FJ40 with IFS. Paul did a lot of wheeling back East but this was his first time out in the desert. We only ran into one area where we had a problem and that was because the trail narrowed down to a motorcycle trail at a fairly steep incline, drop offs on both sides, and the trail turned to soft sand at the same time (almost like the dunes at the entrance) and it did that in an area where it was very difficult to turn around or back down. We ended up backing Ali back down with Evan doing the spotting.

I won't take credit for that. There were lots of helpers, which was good because we had pretty steep drop-offs on both sides. It was hard to watch all four wheels at once.

Had a great time, and we saw a lot of country we hadn't seen before. Primarily way north of the usual routes. Not much in the way of rock obstacles, but a fair amount of sand and climbs. Rev the motor and see-saw the steering wheel to keep going! :steer:

It was an interesting area to explore but the darn trails became too narrow. Thanks to my all of my spotters and great team work, I didn't turtle myself. The Vehicross would have had a much easier time in that type of terrain and it is very nimble. Paul is a good driver and that's a big factor in the equation.

But the BEST part was having ice cream at the end of the day!!!!!

Three cheers for Baskin Robbins! We heard that it was Isabelle's idea, so that shows you what a smart girl she is.
