As we discussed at the May meeting, there's a run scheduled for next Saturday, May 22 to the Gordy's Hill area near Socorro. I've been there before once or twice and I'm interested in going again, but I don't know the area well enough to lead a run.

Who's interested in going and/or who knows the area to lead a run for us? It seemed that we hooked up with some students from Tech one of the previous times and they knew the area well.

Should be fun!

I can't go, but ... I did find a PDF map I made from a GPS track a few years ago.

I thought I was going to make this one, but looking now, I work that day... AND, I was going to see if I could take it off, but they aren't allowing anyone to put in for days off 'till July because of the budget. I do want to wheel that area.

Bummer, I'm putting 5.29's in the 4-Runner right now and won't have them done by the 22nd. I really want to go down south too.

Thanks Jon!

Well, we've heard from a lot of folks who can't make it that day. Is anyone interested/available to go on Saturday, May 22?

Anyone still going? I'm interested....

This is my first post, but I'm new to the area and would love to see some of the trails around here. Are there still plans to do this tomorrow?

Hey Steve & 99VX -

I think I was the only one that was trying to get a group together, and I was hoping to find someone who knows their way around down there near Socorro. No one has offered to lead, so that run was falling apart. I've been to Gordy's Hill before, but I don't really know my way around down there.

However, we could always head out to the Puerco for a few hours if nothing else. I hate to drive all the way to Socorro, not really knowing where I was going when I got there. Also, my wife has now made dinner plans for us tomorrow evening. So maybe a Puerco run in the morning would work if anybody's interested.

I won't be going by myself, but if anyone else wants to go, I would lead a run to the Rio Puerco basin. To get there, go out 528 to Rio Rancho. Drive north on 528 until you get to Southern. Turn left (west) on Southern and drive out there about 10 or 15 miles until the road dead-ends into the sand dunes.

If anyone is interested, let's plan to meet out there about 9:00 AM. Its supposed to be windy, but I think it won't be too bad if we get an early start. Just FYI, my cell is 238-7226 and the CB will be on Channel 40 and the HAM on 146.460.

I'll check back here later today (Friday), and see if anyone is interested.

Steve - if you go, would you bring the 40 or the 4Runner? How about you, 99VX, what sort of rig do you drive? Stock or modified? The Puerco is pretty flexible. There's some pretty hard stuff, but a stock rig will also do fine. The hard stuff is mostly optional. I'll wait to hear from you guys.

Evan

Evan, if you go to the Puerco I might be interested. I don't want to be out all day, and that might just be the ticket.

P.S. for 99VX, if we end up going to the Puerco tomorrow, I'm also in the East Mountains (near the Zuzax exit). I'd be happy to meet up with you in the mountains if you'd like. Or if you want to just meet at the end of Southern, you can probably count on it taking about an hour from Cedar Crest, by the time you get to Rio Rancho and then head all the way west out of town to the end of Southern.

Sounds like a plan. If we get out there by 9:00, I would guess maybe shoot for being back to pavement (either back to Rio Rancho, or out to I-40 and the casino) by 2:00 or so?

You can try out your new driveshaft!

I went ahead and retitled the thread.

I am interested in going and will plan to be there at 9am.

I'm in. Evan, I can meet you in the East Mountains 8:00-8:15-ish. Want to just meet at the bottom of N14 where you get on 40? There's a nice little pull-off a few hundred feet up N14.

I'll be driving a VehiCross that has had some minor mods... Lifted, on 33's. Locked front diff, limited slip in back.

Here's a pic from last week in Moab:

Sorry, that picture was HUGE. :)

I'm in:bounce: I'll be in the 4runner and I'll meet you guys out at the trail head @ 9am. Hope you come John I want to see Da40 in action:popcorn:

The smurf needs some tlc in the rear diff:frown: sounds like gravel...hoping its just a pinion bearing I think the oil level got a little low and the front bearing is toast (pinion angled up) + I need to do the RR disc brake swap.

If it's OK, I will just meet you at the trailhead after all. My brother-in-law is going to ride along, so I will be leaving earlier to pick him up.

I saw the picture before you took it down. I think you will fit right in with the group!

Just in case you need directions, here are the basics:

I-40 west to I-25 north. Probably the easiest way is all the way north to Alameda, and go west on Alameda. Alameda will cross the river and turn into 528. Follow 528 up the hill and it curves north as you enter Rio Rancho. Look for Southern, turn left and head west out of town 10 to 15 miles until you hit the sand dunes.

We'll see you out there at 9:00. Look for the Cruisers and the 4Runner.

Excellent Steve - it will be good to see you again. Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your rear diff, but this is the right crowd to help with that.

We'll all be out at the end of Southern at 9:00 AM, if anyone else wants to join us.
