Hi,
I have a 2006 FZJ-71 and I upgraded the stock tires to 305x70x16
Do I need to change the ring n pinion? what is the stock ratio and what ratio I need to buy.
As there is no much of parts here in Dubai, thus, please suggest me where to buy? Snake Racing?

Thanks

here is the ride..

Look on the vehicle ident plates, there will be a code on there for the differential - that will tell us what gearing you have. My HZJ79 came with 4.30's and it works great with 33-34's but anything over that and I need to change the low range gears. I suspect yours has 4.11's in it but I could be wrong, terrain tamer will have the r and P if you need to change.

your tyre size is equiv to a 33x12.5 im pretty sure
i wouldnt bother changin you should have plenty of power
wouldnt bother changin the gears unless your start going over 35" tyres

Well, there is nothing in the plates or manual, I'll try to find somehow!

very nice truck.

what are you looking for with gearing change?

your wheeling is mostly sand dunes?
Thanks , I need more power to climb dunes , changing the ratio would help!

I just got the info, its 4.11

What R & P ratio you recommend? where to buy?
I'm putting 35" on it

:hhmm: what about some PSI in the motor insead;)

It's not worth it to re-gear just because you got 33" tires if you have the 1FZ-FE engine, most people with 35" don't re-gear either, however anything higher than that and it would be advisable to do so.

I'm running 33"s with the stock gearing, the difference between that and the running the stock tires is negligible.

I'm getting Headers today this will add about 20 hp to the engine.

Also, today I'm getting 2" spacers and shackels to add 2" to fit the 35"

As most of you did not recommend to change the grear, I'll try these 35s for a while w/o change R&P and then I'll decide.

Do I need to change the clutch if putting 35" on it? or the stock clutch can take the load?

Still, the question remains, I noticed that for my FJ71 there is only 9" R&P w/o mentioning if its for front or rear, unlike other cars like my x-wrangler where manufacturers specify if its for rear or front as the different in size.

Can someone help in what are the front and rear R&P size (Ratio 4.88)

20 hp is a big gain from just adding headers mate
what brand are they

Well, headers should give a 15-20 hp to engine, but, 5-10 hp to the car in general, hope I'm right?

I'm putting Fox Headers!

there was a post awhile ago saying about diff gears for 79 series so same ass your 71

Gears

Yes the later model 78/79/71 use a different rear which can now be regeared to 4.88.

The 4.88 in the link you sent wont fit as the newer models have changed. The Nitro part numbers would be:
TLCF-488R-NG FRONT
TLC100-488-NG REAR

Where are you located?

FZJ71 from Dubai

I fitted the 2.5" lift and added the 35"s on 10" rims

What do you think guys?

I might delay the R&P till needed, so far, I'm considering front pipe bumper + rear tire carrier.

any suggestions?

Keep in mind horses are smaller in Japan compared to horses out in the west like western United States (mustangs etc). I was told Jap horse power standard is not the same as the american ones. I could be wrong. So 20 Jap horse power maybe equals to 10 or even less American horse power? I dunno..

WOW looks tough as
how did you go with bigger tyres and std gear ratio with petrol motor. on and off road compared to having the std tyres
