Thinking about next summer's annual cruiser trek to Colorado and will likely do Cruiser on the Rockies. I have also always wanted to do Rim Rocker to Moab and I've never been to Moad either. Anyone planning that far ahead yet? I'd like to get a small group together to run Rim Rocker either before or after Cruisers on the Rockies and maybe do a few runs in Moab. I know late July isn't the best time for Moab but I can take a few days of heat. Who's done Rim Rocker? Am I right in thinking the heat on Rim Rocker wouldn't be quite as bad as most of Moab?

Found this: Good info from Rising Sun on Rim Rocker.

I was in Colorado / Utah last summer in a stock 2013 LX570 on 33's.

I had Rimrocker on my list of trails I wanted to do but unfortunately after smacking my running boards a few times on Engineer pass I decided against Rimrocker.

I am very curious to know if a basically stock LX570 on 33's would have any trouble with Rimrocker for the next time.

I'll be watching this thread.

We did Rimrocker summer 2023, along with top of the world, The Maze in Canyonlands, and Alpine Loop. Rimrocker is pretty easy, I’d call it a green trail, and parts are just gravel road. There was some slightly rocky stuff at one point but it would barely rate blue if going towards Moab (uphill) and really any stock LC or LX could do Rimrocker IMO. Also as far as the trail goes, it’s long and has a bunch of entry/exit points, so you might decide to skip the first 50 miles in Colorado which are just gravel road, for instance. It does have some nice views, and a few small FCFS campsites once you cross into the higher elevations which have nice views.

As trails go, Kokopelli is more technical and IMO more fun for a multi day trip. Also white rim is a really awesome 2 day overland trip, and was totally doable in a stock LC/LX when we did it, though you’ll need to get a permit online via recreation.gov for that.

I’m itching to go back to the area at some point and do the San Rafael Swell, and some other overlanding.

BTW I think 3 of the 4 times I’ve done Moab it’s been in July/August. The nights are typically low-to-mid 70s and are perfect for camping. Often in August you’ll get rain in the late afternoon/evening), which helps cool things a bit. It’s hot during the day but that’s what the A/C and cooled seats in the cruiser are for, and we had no issues with overheating the trucks even in ~105F peaks

I'll likely be aiming for Cruisers on the Rockies as well, so I could be interested in this. I'm hoping to make Cruise Moab, and if I do I'll report back with anything I learn, otherwise I've never been, yet.

Probably no CM for me this year as I’m starting the new job in 2 weeks and not going to have enough vacation time. CM is a good way to do Kokopelli or another multi-day overland trail though. utah trails are much better in April (or May) than July/August if you have the option.

CRockies might happen for me, depending on the week and whether we do a family trip over the summer. If I do it alone I’m going to try to sneak in a few other days in Moab (despite the heat) or CO.

I’m definitely doing COTR at Windrock again though next October as that’s an easy 8-9 hour drive.

I plan on COTR also. Don’t think I can pull off CM this year with everything else. Definitely 2026 for that.

Rimrocker’s elevation does help with the heat that time of year. I’ve done the trail a handful of times including during the heat of July… it wasn’t my favorite but beats not doing the trail. Plan your camps at the higher elevations and you’re good.

While it's no formal event yet I'm looking at the following this season in the LX7 with my buddy Nick from LCDC:

April - Cruise Moab
July - Bozeman
Sept - Ouray or Moab/Utah

Please make sure to report on how a stock LX 2024+ does with that stupid chin in some of these trails. Would be very useful to know before some of us mortals can consider lightly used 2023 LX600s (hopefully escaping from the engine-gate) at less-outrageous prices. ;)

I'm not worried about it with 34s, sliders, and 3.3" of lift in H2.

After running through Poughkeepsie in a stock GX550 without a scratch to the bumper I'm confident in my trail skill.

I don’t recall anything on Rimrocker a stock LX in AHC Low mode on stock tires couldn’t handle.

Looks like family and I are down for COTR assuming we can get a spot.
I also would like to do RimRocker if the timing lines up.

I'm in basically a stock 2013 LX570 on 33's so I'm probably limited on trails I can run.
