I was hoping to see if someone had a similar issue in my 2016 LC. My passenger side trailer turn lights are not working when hooked up to my trailer. It is not the trailer -turn signals worked when someone else plugged in. LC fuses looked good. Is there anywhere else to look, test or retest? Thanks!!

You wouldn't happen to have installed a Hopkins trailer harness?

I am using what I believe is the factory OEM harness on the LC. I am not the original owner though. I have a 7 blade connector mounted on the LC, an adapter that allows me to attach a short pig tail with a 4 prong connector.

They make very cheap 7-pin trailer plug testers that could help figure this out. Also the harness is quite short and it’s connection to the larger vehicle harness very close to it. Check for damage in those wires and maybe pull apart those two connectors for inspection.

Wires rubbing and shorting out is common, not necessarily on a factory OEM set up but unwrap the pigtail converter and you may find the problem.

Flex causes those wires to break. Also junk in the connectors like road salt. Connectors can look really good and be really bad.

My business has lots of smaller trailers, when there is a problem with wiring we just rip it out and start over. So much easier than beating ones head against the wall trying to find the problem.

I would re-check the fuses for power and continuity. Sometimes they look good but they are not.

Thanks everyone! I will check all fuses, connections, and confirm OEM harness later this week and get back to the group.

Amen.

Good things to check, but start with the connector cleaning. Get a q-tip with some wd-40 on it and go into all the connector holes. Wipe the pins on the male side and if there is any corrosion, use a bit of emery cloth to polish them up. Wouldn't hurt to run some rolled up emery cloth in the holes too. If the LC turn signals work and the trailer lights work with another vehicle, my money is on the connector and the KISS principle.

Depends on what year LC200 the OP has, Was it mentioned?
The trailer harness on mine and your 2017 Goes inside the vehicle and across under the floor area from passenger to driver side and behind the rear driver side interior panel in the cargo area. That is where that connector is. That connector is protected well.
I think if I remember right the signal fuse is in that panel that is under the dash on the driver side near the engine hood and fuel door release. An other fine place that is really hard to get at unless you are nimble.

We have never seen an OEM harness go bad unless it’s on an old abused truck. The pigtail is likely the problem.

One tip though if you do tow a lot is to make a pigtail that stays in the truck connector all the time. About 4” long. Let it hang and plug the trailer into the pigtail instead of the truck to minimize wear on the truck connector itself.

The connector that usually causes the problem is where the plug from the trailer goes into the receptacle on the vehicle since those are exposed to “stuff” and subjected to wear.

That is a good point.

One time my converter plug was not plugged in good and the right trailer signal wasn't working. Converter plug from 4 wire to 7.
Once I wiggled the converter plug around and put it in an out a few times it when back to working fine.

I finally had a chance go get back to the trailer which was in the shop. After checking all fuses and plugs, it ended up being the connector to the LC. My initial thought was this could not be it because it basically brand new and it has probably been used a handful of times and removed each time after use. Thanks everyone for your ideas and posting!

Funny thing, my 100 is doing the same thing with my trailer. I'm using the Curt plug in harness, also basically brand new. I need to test continuity. Hoping that's the issue.

You may want to test for power at the plug first to see which direction you need to test further?
