I have the ARB rear drawers for my LC and there isn't *quite* enough space between the rear seat and the back of the drawers to store an AR or AK pattern rifle. I can squeeze a lever action in, but would prefer to have a box magazine weapon. Does anyone store a rifle in their rig in a safe/weapon locker either on the rear floorboards or attached to the headliner? Haven't found something I feel is secure enough.

Thanks!

It's not the ideal solution but many rifle platforms break down quick enough to store in pieces, like any AR or an 870. My plan is to keep my Ruger Takedown in a set of locked KISS drawers, and I could easily add an AR with the upper & lower separated.

If you don't mind cutting into the ARB drawer frame, you could pretty easily cut a panel out of the side/back next to the drawer. There should be enough room to pass an AR-15 through. A lockable, hinged access panel on the top of the sides would probably work, too. Of course, if you had the time, tools, and skills to do this modification, you probably would have just built your own drawer system to begin with. Do-able, but not a small project.

The WagonGear set-up is slick, especially if you could figure out a mounting system for the firearm so it didn't rattle around. Maybe big blocks of closed-cell foam you could cut out to fit the AR-15?

I agree that the wagongear solution is cool, and that it would need something to secure the firearm from rattling around. I also wonder about moisture. Being in the PNW, rain and humidity is a near constant 8 months of a year. But in terms of access, its probably as good as anything. Unfortunately, my ARB drawers and wing pockets are full of recovery and search and rescue gear.

It sounds like you're going to have to make a decision. Do you want to shoot people, or recover/search/rescue them? ;)

Is this just for transport, or long-term storage of a firearm? I haven't really looked inside the tailgate of the 100, but the inside of my 80 gate looked pretty dry. The way the top hatch covers over the bottom when closed, it doesn't look like there was much in the way of moisture getting in there. I don't remember there even being vents in the bottom. Pretty easy to pop the carpet cover off and take a look. Maybe even stash something in there to show evidence of moisture getting in and drive around for a while.

My AR does not seem to move much if at all in my LX tailgate. I'm not sure that it is as deep as the LC, though.

I threw in a couple large desiccant bags to help prevent any moisture build-up. I'm not sure how well they work, but I haven't had any noticeable rust form on the rifle. There is absolutely no water intrusion from outside.

I kept the factory carpet, and it completely covers the tailgate lid. You can't even tell it's installed.
