I have the opportunity to purchase a Rhino Rack Pioneer system with the backbone mounting system. The issue is it’s says it’s for a LC100 and I’ve got a Lx 470, same year 1999. Just wondering if anyone has run one of these on their LX?

Shouldn't be an issue. The OEM drip covers for the roof gutter won't fit because the feet spacing is different, but the rack itself will fit as the core mounting points are the same across all 100s

You should get it. The Pioneer platform is awesome. I just finished installing mine a couple of days ago. I bought the rack from a guy that had it on an Excursion. So, I had to buy new feet.

Nice, thanks for the info, what kit do you use? I’m hoping this backbone system doesn’t give me too much trouble.

I used these 3 kits.

- Rhino Rack Rcp Base Kit (X6), RCP02-BK (amazon)
- Rhino Rack RCH Locking Leg (X6) (amazon)
- Roof Rack Leg Spacer Blocks for Rhino-Rack Heavy-Duty Crossbars - 5 mm Thick - Qty 6 Item # RRQMHD05-3 (etrailer)

Since you are buying the setup that was on another LC, you may not need to buy all of the above that I listed. Be sure to do the test fit first. Then, when you are ready for the final install, use copious amounts of silicone in the bolt holes to avoid any water intrusion :)

The backbone should be a straight forward install. All you need is the backbone, platform, and hardware. As for the trim strip, if you don't already have to holes in it where the feet go, you'll either have to make some or remove the strip completely. The LX uses different mounting points than the LC. All points are there on all 100's, they just differ in the factory rails and trim strips.

Are you using the factory mounting holes up there?
That front one looks like it’s in the location of the LC front set, just curious….
My RCH kit front set had the holes to close together to use the LC holes near the sunroof.
I had the gutter trim out and just used the LX holes.

I use the RCH feet for my bars. Eezi-Awn not RR but they were cheaper to build out for my needs.

My factory LC front holes here are circled in green, I used the LX holes circled I yellow because those were the ones the holes lined up on.

I am using only the factory holes. I used the front most holes that are almost near the front of the sunroof to get as much forward mounting as I could. Only problem I saw was that the rear hole for the front most mounting point do not match up with the factory holes. I chose NOT to drill any new holes and just use one of the 2 mounting holes.

I can highly recommend the Pioneer. I went with the RCL feet I believe which is the lower feet. Also went with the 49inch wide by 84 inch long and I really like the way it hugs the roof line.

Finished the install, the backbone system lined up perfectly with all the original mounting holes! It was tight trying to bolt it up, but I’m pleased with the result.. thanks for all the input

Man that came out looking good, clean too!

What are your racks dimensions?

TIA,

I was using the Eezi-Awn load bars and am switching to the Heavy Duty bars from Rhino Rack as I scored a crazy good (Going Out of Business) deal. I already had the 6-feet kit.

Might put the K-9 bars on the Tacoma.

I’m using the Rhinorack backbone and pioneer platform on my Tundra. Assembling the platform is pretty time consuming, but the install is very straight forward. It’s super sturdy and allows us to have dance competitions on the roof.
