RHD to LHD conversion

reasons Insurance ,familiarity , resale .

Insurance shouldn't be an issue.

Familiarity comes pretty fast

The rhd rigs have good resale.

A rhd converted to lhd would be pretty undesirable.

Lhd exists, so you're not making anything that can't be just bought. Why would someone buy a rig that's been hacked up when a comparable model exists?

Just learn how to backup through the Jack-N-The-Box. Doubtful there would be any return on investment to do a conversion.

I just lean across.

My buddy had the rhd hilux surf. Best things were him reversing though the drive throughs and me sticking both arms out the passenger window on a 2 lane highway

Grazie

We have an 80 in Namibia right-hand drive, it has been in Africa since 2013 for tourism, we would like to send it back to Italy, but the market for right-hand drive is non-existent here.
how long it would take to do the conversion and how much it might cost, any suggestion is much appreciated.
Thank you

If you aren't familiar, I assume you recently purchased? What constraints led you to buy a rhd if desiring the other? Regardless, as previously stated, a poor investment and I imagine a host of potential issues to ruin the reliability of a wonderful vehicle.

I drive RHD in Spain which like the rest of Europe is a LHD country, there is just the one drawback and that's if it's rainy and windy at the same time and you have to get out at toll booths.

I rarely use the toll booths but if I did I would get a yearly pass and drive straight through, and considering it only rains here a half dozen times a year I would not even consider a conversion period.

On the plus side parts are just a short way away in the UK.

Regards

Dave

My son loves the confused looks he gets

After 10 years of numerous trips to Africa, our time is over. The problem is whether to bring the hdj80 back to Italy or demolish it in Namibia, since the old machines do not want them, like ours which is an hdj80 from 91.
The toyota has always performed well and never let us down, so we are very happy with the hdj.
When it was bought, the right-hand drive was chosen because it cost very little.
We are sorry to leave it in Namibia and demolish it, that's why I had the idea of moving the guide from right to left, because in Italy the right-hand drive nobody want it so it is unsaleable.
If we could move them from right to left maybe there in Africa, then it would be worth it to spend many euros for the container for the return.
I understand this is an unhealthy idea, but it was just a curiosity.
We will leave it as it is.
Thank you for your suggestion.

Why would you have to demolish it? Are RHDs illegal in Italy?

Bring it to Italy. I'll take it off your hands instead of scrapping it.

You are very "ganzo" as we say here in Florence, if you had done two calculations you would have noticed that bringing the HDJ80 back to Italy has a higher cost than its actual value!
They want the owner present at the boarding in Walwis bay, so you have to add the cost of the ticket and the stay in Namibia for at least one person + the cost of port taxes and the cost of the container.
Otherwise there would be another solution, that is to buy the HDJ80 here in It

alia and take a wonderful trip to Namibia, a land to be discovered and ... safe.
The 80 is parked in a garage at 40 € per month next to a small hotel where to lodge, 20 km from Windhoek and from there one can plan a very nice trip even in Angola if not in Namibia, Botswana and more.
We have the carnet de passagee en douane, expiring on March 20, 2022, so if you are interested in the deal, hurry up, Namibia is waiting for you!

Assuming that’s an open offer, I’m tempted to sell everything I own and take you up on it. I’ve always wanted to see the Fish River Canyon and then Etosha and the Moomba woodlands up north.

I don’t see any reason to scrap it in any case; surely someone will take it off your hands in Namibia. What would you asking for it, out of curiosity?

If shipping costs weren't crazy right now I'd fly down for sure.
No idea on the current costs to bring it up here.
But, you'd be more than welcome to visit the HDJ in Pordenone. :)
