I was wondering if anyone had experience driving right hand drive cruisers in central america and if they experienced problems with the authorities specifically because of the RHD. I'm considering spending this summer taking my HJ47 down to panama and back.

You shouldn't have any problems as long as you have the normal documentation in order. I say go for it, take tons of pics, and post your trip up here on MUD! Good luck!

There are a few JDM right hand drive vehicles down there as well. As a tourist it won't be an issue. All I can say is pay extra care when passing or better yet, don't bother. There are few passing lanes.

most RHD cars that I came across in Guate, are stolen cars from overseas. But if you are driving RHD into Central America, it should not be a problem, the scary driving will be the same

I can well imagine that they were stolen cars from overseas. A few Q's to the right people and a "legitimate" Guatemalan title will come. I saw a couple of Toyota Starlet Turbo's and probably a few others.
