Short and sweet (a first for my threads?).

How difficult would it be to swap a JDM RHD HJ61 body onto a LHD FJ62, using dash, wiring, yada yada from the 62.

Would it be:

1) Fairly straightforward, not much more difficult than a straight 62-62 body swap :bounce2:...:bounce:

2) More involved but not too bad (e.g. swap over pedal bucket, some drilling of new holes, plugging of old ones) :hhmm:...:wrench:...:steer:...

3) Doable but fairly involved (e.g. swapping firewall over) :o...:wrench:...:wrench:....:whoops:...:wrench:...:wrench:...:steer:

4) Not worth it when you can get a 62 body without too much more effort. :o......:bang:...:bang:...:bang:...:censor:

What specific issues can you think of that would make it a pain in the ass?

Lately I've been thinking I'll track down a clean California body when I have the money and time to tackle it (likely a year or 2 off, but thanks for the heads up). But now there is a clean HJ 61 being parted out much closer to home. Trying to decide if it is worth pursuing or not.

The thing is RHD isn't what I want. I want to swap a clean body onto my LHD 62 (eventually), and there is a clean RHD 61 being parted out in Kamloops. I am trying to gauge if converting a JDM body into LHD is reasonable given my current lack of bodywork skills and tools.

between option 3 and 4. To do it properly you are looking at swapping the firewall including the piece below the windshield that has the wipers (since they are in different spots). The steering box, all of the steering linkage and power steering hoses, the electrical harness - if you have and want power everything because all the switches are on the opposite side including the fuse block, instrument cluster, mirrors, etc. There are some shops that do it but it is not cheap and takes a while, Ciaran at Cruiserland has done a couple so you can get more details from him - PM me for his number if you want. Honestly, I would stick with Right hand drive, the truck you are looking at is already registered and driving so it should not be a big deal - if you can adjust to it. For that matter you might as well just take the stuff off yours that you like and put it on the HJ and keep the diesel. To do the swap you need a fair amount of tools, welder, something for cutting, etc. and you need a bit of body work experience as it is an important structural part of the vehicle. Good luck.

Good enough, looks like sourcing a RHD body closer to home would be more of a pain than getting a LHD one down south. Never even thought about the wipers.
