My 80 has manual windows ex-factory. Have considered retro-fitting power-windows at least to the front doors but value the reliability of manual winders and I'm not comfortable making holes in the a-pillars for wiring harnesses.

Anyone done a power-window retrofit? Did all US LX450's have power windows ex-factory so not need a retro-fit?

Pull off the door card and look to see if you have the empty wiring harness?

I've never seen an 80 with manual windows in the US.

If you have a rubber plug in the lower body frame near the door limiter, you shouldn't have to drill anything. Parts are easily available, over here at least.

Last time I looked into this, it sounded like the hand crank would end up going about half a turn before it hit the armrest. So I believe you’d need to source new door panels too.

you could just install a spacer in place so that the crank does not hit the arm rest.

i am looking for a replacement of my power window for just the driver side, this makes me wonder if maybe the parts can be sourced if you have the right numbers and do the research for the right (non-american) version FJ80

My 80 has manual windows all round. It's a dx (base model with barn doors, 5 spd manual and part-time transfer) though. All US 80's were Lexus LX450's I believe?

The doors on mine aren't originals by the look of it and they do have a plug for a harness to come out of but the a-pillars don't have any cable harness holes so I'd have to drill holes and set them up for cabling to run through.

To date I haven't bothered but I need to replace the doors due to them getting a fair bit of rust and might get front doors with power window gear to try and figure out if I can get them set up and working.

And here I was debating how to change my power windows on my 97 LX to manual.

Personally I've never seen a US 450 without power windows but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Personally, I'd keep the hand cranks and be happy to not have to deal with all the power windows issues.

That's one reason I haven't changed over. Since my 80 has no working AC (hasn't since I got in 8 yrs ago) it is a pita to have to reach over to the left front door (being a rhd vehicle) to wind down the window, but yes there is value in the simple mechanical window mechs for the front and rear doors.

I would love manual windows. I hate electric ones in a truck.

No, we got Landcruisers as well, but as far as I know we did not get any manual windows.

The doors in mine all have GX trims - I don't know why. But all four doors are manual window.
