Bypass the radiator and the heater core(s) as they could get clogged with scale coming out of the block. If your radiator was cleaned there's no point in subjecting it to more cleaning.

Not sure if it was brought up but you should replace all freeze plugs when done. Use brass ones.

Got it all put back together. So I got kinda lazy.... Acid and old water pump didn't sound fun. New WP and Tstat, I filled the system up with water and some Napa 30 min cleaner crap. Ran that for 30ish min, drained, hosed out everything I could, and filled back up. It was 3rd world water colored.... I'll be repeating that tomorrow.

Everything was pretty solid though. No leaks and it ran great. Took FOREVER to get to temp.

Oh adding to the fun- The heater valve is frozen. I'll play with that another day. I'm sure the heater core is fubar as well. I haven't even looked at it yet

It's probably worth a look to see what (if anything) the napa cleaner is actually doing. You'd have to pull the water pump or the thermostat housing to get a look inside the block. From your previous pics, there should be a TON of rust and scale coming out. If you're pretty certain that it's not going to have cooling issues then maybe it'll be OK. Personally, I'd always be nervous if I didn't address that.

I’m hoping to take it for a drive this weekend. She maintained temp with the cleaner and after with the coolant so I might be good. Going to flush again after I get some miles

Still need timing and valve adjustment. God knows what else hahahaha

Something that is really needed for a block with coolant passages like that is the Gano filter. The Gano goes into the upper radiator hose and filters the crud out of the coolant, keeping any extra crud out of the radiator. Try ganofilters.com to see what it is all about. I used one when I swapped a used motor into my 94 Chev pickup, since i didn't know what the coolant was like in the vehicle the motor came from.

A week or 3 ago I took apart my heater to replace the heater core and whatever else didn't work. At the Bakersfield meet, I saw quite a few 40's with no heater. Soooooooo I decided to leave it out. My 'Heater Eliminator Kit' was a Gates 25528 hose and a M16x1.5 oil drain plug.
Hose was between the lower radiator to the water pump so I could eliminate the heater return pipe.
Oil plug was to cap off the line that runs from the through the firewall to the head. The oil plug was used because I couldn't find anything else in that size and it worked!

Still some messing around to do before getting her on the road, but it's coming along.
