Resurrecting my first FJ40.... list o'crap, what else?

I like your rig! My 69 was sitting for around for 15 years with an occasional short drive by the PO once a month. I bought it a month ago and it is still in the shop getting a ton of work done. Tracking down original parts and waiting for them to arrive takes time. Although my clutch was functioning, it was not perfect so that was replaced (as well as the while I am in the neighborhood stuff--throw out bearing, etc.). Check your shocks and steering stablizer--mine were 100% non-functioning. Brake shoes and cylinders are being done as well--my brakes were horrible. My parking brake did not work--so shoes for that as well. Also had to buy the parking brake drum--it was bad--got a new one from Qatar ($$)--still waiting for it. Water pump, thermostat, new belt, leaking fuel pump were done as well. We added LED lights as well. My steering was not good--replacing tie ends, fixing steering box and other stuff. Sorry for long post but I guess my point is that if it has been sitting around then a lot needs to be done and, you will find more stuff to be done once you or your mechanic start digging around. I am adding a couple of Tuffy boxes in the back (mine is soft top only so I needed security storage and you may want to consider that), bought original PTO winch and having some military type tires (Coker from Summit Racing) installed as well (to each his own). Good luck and again, nice rig and look forward to more pix. m

If you are one of those OCD guys you could break it down to systems. Brakes, electrical, driveline, engine, etc. Start making lists on how each system works (or doesnt). Or you can do what I did and let an upside down bezel turn into a frame off restoration!

Nice looking rig, make a build thread or keep posting to this thread and you will get a ton of advice on how to spend $. We love spending other peoples money! Congrats and welcome!!

Thanks for the love fellas! I'll keep the list going and get some more pics/updates when the weather cooperates a little more. Good ol' SoCal is having crappy weather lately.....

+1 on spending other peep's money. I'll have to start being a part time lot lizard to raise cash for parts hahahaha!

Dave, you will find that Cali guys get no sympathy for what we consider to be crappy weather:)

This is my second time living here. When I'm not here, I make fun of Commiefornians for being :censor: about the weather. When I live here, I become a :censor: also!

Yeah I saw the Pikachu earlier, lots of good info! Awesome thread, and amazing work on it!

Yeah, this is not normal spring weather in Delaware....
Brother in San Diego says some unusual rain amounts for Cali. Mudslide risk.

It's like some sort of freak laundry detergent accident.

Your bro is correct. BTW, what is all that white stuff on and around your rig..weird

Dave, where did the rig come from? I think you made a good score. I agree with those who say service it, drive it and take it from there. Hope to see it at the Bako swap meet in April. Even if you don't drive the '40 come on down and you'll receive a lot of good info. and make some good connections.

Craigslist. Ad was too much $$ and getting stale. I swooped in with the magic lowball and scored.

That's the plan for now... Next weekend is going to be nice so I'm going to spend some time bonding hahahaha!

And I'll be there one way or the other. Hopefully in the LC, if not the 4Runner. Got to properly represent!

So it looks like the weather is going to cooperate this weekend.... ordering belts. Best I can figure is Gates TR22410 for the alt belt and Gates 7490 for smog pump. Do those part numbers look correct?

I’m going to make a command decision and call these belts as unserviceable
