very nice work sir! do you mind my asking what paint gun and nozzle sizes you are using for primer and paint? single stage? That paint looks really flat for you not even going over it yet! Great work.

TK

Thanks
The gun is a devilbiss Dev 802170 High Efficiency Gravity Feed Plus Gun. I use a 1.2 for the single stage and a 1.8 for the primer. I normally use a harbor freight gun for the primer but lately I've been using my devilbiss. It throws down the paint real nice with high atomization and a big spray pattern. It's not an hvlp gun.
And with high atomization comes less orange peal. Plus I use a med speed hardner in the lower temp range which lets the paint really settle out.

It's looking good. Thanks for the heads up on that column boot. Toyota here in Salem wanted $55 for it and I got it in Wilsonville for $38. Got it installed on Saturday.

Nice to know... I had to negotiate my cost. Got it for 45 at Capitol. Wilsonville sounds like a new option.

Thanks

Thanks! I'm in the never-ending quest of perfect paint and like to hear about other people's setups that work. Keep up the great work!

Did some patch work on one of the hard top sides.
Made some marks, made a template, cut it into steel, cut out the bad metal, trimmed cut piece, placed it, tacked it in, double checked, welded it in, grinded the welds, all done!!!!

Thanks!

It's coming along nicely, getting a troll hole carb hooked up as soon as it arrives. I really like using the old school welder with brazing rod. Easy to control heat, just not as fast. I'll keep u in mind for parts. I think I may end up using my 78 headlight buckets if they will fit.

Hood and fenders are in primer now. Going to get color on the inner sides and then mount them up.

Been a while...
I have been grinding away at her. Going to paint tomorrow.
Interior is nearly complete, engine bay almost done. Here's some pics!

Well , she's painted!
Turned out pretty good. Shot two wet coats of PPG single stage urethane 416 dune beige. Covered really well. Laid down nice in the 74 degree whether.
That was yesterday, so today I started having a little fun bolting on some goodies.

Lookin' sweet! I feel like I am so close yet so far away from where you are. I hope to have photos like yours next month.

Where did you source all of those pretty screws? JIS?
How much color sanding did you have to do?
What did you do for a paint booth?
What Hard top weather stripping kit is that?

Bolts are from ACE hardware that I bought as white zinc, then dipped them in chromate solution. And most are JIS.

Not much color sanding, just buffing with three levels of cutting polish.

Homemade paint booth. Worked okay...

That's not a WS kit just door edge guard. I have used it on three rigs and I like what it does...

And thank you!!!

More too come...

That is beautiful! Would love to see a picture of your paint booth!

Hah! It's just a 10 x 20 garage from harbor freight. With two fans, one on one end and one on the other with filters. One blowing in and one out. Dust is the enemy!!! I took it down already since it takes up my driveway!!

I wondered if that would work. Sounds a whole lot less expensive than buying whole Zinc Copy Cad kit.

Are you pleased with results?

Super pleased!! I will go this route for all my builds from now on. Super easy, and the solution lasts along time.

Timing is super critical ! About 60 seconds is all it takes.
