Well,

It's been a year, and since I bought my 78 in Feb, I have let this project slip. However, I have begun again!!! Just dropped her off at the blaster yesterday. Getting EVERYTHING blasted. I welded in new rear sill (CCOT) and corner sheetmetal. Also purchased a entire floorpan from Pilgrim. Very nice quality.
The tub is currently in half. The front cowl seperated from the rear tub section. Once I get them back from the blaster, I am welding them all together. I also purchased new inner and outer rocker panels and will be installing those.
I am currently looking for a set of bucket seats in any condition as long as there all there and not rusted out.

Dont have many pics, but heres a shot of the rear part of the tub after installing rear sill and corner sections. Just begining to heat and scrap off the undercoating.
One thing I learned for next time is to blast everything before doing any metal work. finding things like spot welds is much easier...

I will be posting more on this build shortly.

Right on Greek! I love following your restorations! By the way I was in your neck of the woods yesterday buying a roll cage. Whats up with the snow! Raining in Albany, snowing in Salem. Good luck with the build and i will be following your progress!!

Hey greek, how does that floor pan look like it will be for fit? And, from the pics the stock hump that the 71 body has was not put into the Pilgrim hump, which would work good for me. Do you mind if I ask how much the pan cost? The pan in my 71 needs to be replaced and I like the looks of the one in your pic.

Mark, my dad taught at the Chemawa Indian School from the late 60's through most of the 70's and always said the weather demarcation line was the Illahe and Ankeny hills area on I-5. It could be nasty and icy/snowy in Salem and wet but fine south of there, or flip flopped. He lived just off I-5 at the South Jefferson junction area and drove to work through all the good and nasty weather.

Thanks Mark...

Don,

My dry fitting has shown the pan to be a great fit. I wanted to go bucket seats so the mid hump was not an issue. I will simply close the area on the rear tub that meets up with that part of the floor pan. I got a deal on the pan. It's the reinforced version, but you could go the economy version and save $$. It was just under 300 shipped to my door.
We do get a lot of weather around here, and yep, the south Salem hills between here and Albany seem to be where it changes. The snow the other day was great.

Thanks Mark...

Thanks for the reply! The hump is an issue for me as a friend built a gas tank for me that goes across under both seats and we took out the hump to make it easier to construct the tank.

door measurement

This is heating up again, but I have a question... Is the door opening measurement the same for a 71 as a 78? Meaning an edge to edge measurement like the red line in this pic?

Putting the tub back together and need to know if my 78 is accurate for tub measurements before I continue...

Thanks

Update

Its been awhile since I updated, but with my 76 at full speed the 69 has to wait its turn.

I did get the tub put back together. Its using a Pilgrim middle floor, and it went together well.

There was a lot of measuring involved when putting the cowl-floor-rear tub back together. I did it all on the frame so everything would line up correctly. Then when the PACOL rocker panels went in.... WOW, now that was some fabbing right there!

The rocker panels really need allot of massaging to get to fit. Including cutting off about an inch from the front end. And since they are two pieces, its a real bitch to get them all lined up with each other. BUT, it ended up dead on. I mounted the doors and everything was square on both sides.

Since I went with a post 73 floor board I will be installing OEM buckets.

I should be back at this guy in a couple months...

Reviving an OLD build thread...

Well guys, now that my spring green 76 is all wrapped up, it's time to "get back at er" and get this thread moving again...

This weekend I will be cleaning the shop and prepping everything to get back on track.

I'll pull the TUB and finish the work started on the chassis. Drive shafts modded and installed, along with engine junk... My goal is to have her started by next weekend. Once thats complete and the chassis is done, I will move onto the TUB and finish the VERY minor work left regarding sheetmetal. Then its onto bodywork, bodywork and more bodywork, as in getting the surface ready for paint. Im going to make her sides nice and smooth...

This should be a reletively quick build from this point out as most of the heavy lifting is already done.

The last picture above is exactly how she looks today...

My goal is to have her wrapped up in October... wish me luck

I wish I wish I wish... Had a bunch of "junk" get in my way... but I am moving forward. Should have chassis done by next weekend, then onto the body. My "new" goal is Jan... :( One major issue was I needed to install a new transfer case... Anyhoo, I WILL continue this build thread shortly...

Well, I have been getting some time on her lately and she is "getting there" Installed a DUI HEI system last week and she purrs like a kitten at idle but the carb has issues. May go with a trollhole carb as soon as he gets some in.

Also finished all of the welding on the body a couple days ago. I needed to build up some areas on the rockers, as well as final welding of the rear sill. I had to wire wheel the whole tub since shes been sitting collecting dust and some minor surface rust over time. Going to put the tub into primer this weekend and begin the final body work with filler / sand / filler / sand / re-primer etc etc... Should have it blocked out soon.
The rest of the body parts are ready to go and dont need work, except for the hard top sides. they will need some patches along the rear area where they meet with the tub. Not too bad tho.

Just got a new OEM exhaust to install last week, and need to figure out mating it up with the header I have on there.

Anyhoo, theres an update for you... I can post some pics a bit later...
