Update- Second to last coat of primer

Been doing lots of body work lately. and since the weather was nice, I took the opportunity to lay down some primer. One more block and primer after this. Then a pre-paint sanding with some 400 - 600 then paint.

But before that I need to do the underside. Grind down some welds, primer then shoot the Raptor undercoating in black. Inner tub will be getting raptor as well tinted to match body color.

Notice is was originally a FST model.

More shots, plus I painted the dash and door pillars as well. Gonna need to sand a couple drips out. Going to be installing the wire harness soon as well as the firewall goodies.

Starting to make some headway!!!

Christ that looks good! Ever considered respraying the dash after the block-down? As opposed to just blocking down the runs.

I thought about that, and might go that route. I'll see how much of a pain in the ass the runs become.

Installed Pedal bucket and clutch and brake masters

Things are picking up! It's feels good to be finally putting stuff back onto the cruiser.

Installed the pedal bucket with my new shiny yellow chromate hardware that I plated myself, along with the brake and clutch masters.

Pretty straight forward. The clutch is Asian that I rebuilt, the brake master is new from CCOT. The booster is from my 78. Looks like the 78 is becoming more and more of a parts rig for this build.

Body and frame got married

After many years, the tub and chassis are together for the foreseeable future. May they live happily ever after. Took me, my wife, sister and brother in law to lift and move it over. Easy breezy. Next is the mounting hardware for the tub, then onto the "other stuff". Lots of dust in these shots, but thats what you get after several years... :)

Some door repair.

Started on the doors, all seemed good but a couple pin holes showed up on the bottom. Went at it with a wire wheel and a couple more showed up! So decided to cut it out and replace after mig welding up the holes proved to b a problem. Went to tack in the patch and mig went down! Wtf? Now I'm peeved... So I went old school and broke out the oxy accetaline and brazing rod. Trick using this method is heat control via tip size. This was taught to me long ago by my father who was an old school auto body man for 35+ years in the 40's - the early 80's.
Came out nice. Better than my mig with its s***ty 4 settings. Get the metal hot, not too hot, bring in the rod, get rod hot, till the rod melts and flows into the patch.
Finished it with 80 grit flap, filler, sand, then prime.

Shot with patch missing is from donor door.

Door in paint. Just shot a couple coats. Looks ok. Inside first then I'll shoot the outside with the window frame. Some dust bits really buggin me. Will have to sand with some 2k.

Moving forward...

Got the steering box / column installed. This was a small PITA because im installing a manual steering box from a 78 into a 69 rig. Things dont perfectly line up but its close enough to work out ok.

It was almost like doing a power steering conversion into an older FJ. Had to cut and modify the outer shaft with a bearing at the firewall end. But I purchased a new rubber boot and re used - resto'd the two piece mounting plate that covers the boot.

Also installed the clutch slave cyl...

Found that my 78 column doesnt play with my 77 harness. Need a new turn signal switch.

Installed new tie rod ends. Installed the flywheel cover, put the detent springs back into the shifter top plate.. almost forgot those...

Put the valve cover back on.

Worked on the pass side hard top. It needed some patchwork on a very small pin hole of rust. And since my mig was out of order I wentback to the brazing method. Worked out ok...

Did some body smoothing work getting ready for paint...

whew...
