yes, i have those. I am looking for production information. My vin suggests that is was not made for USA, but for Australlia. One page i looked at lists all the numbers around it, but leaves it out, between 12/68 and 01/69. My USA title is for a 69. I think that cool cruisers also leaves my vin out of their list as well.
here is there web page listings of years and vin numbers.

This seems kind of simple to me and I don't mean to point out the obvious.... but you do know that on the first day of December 68 they manufactured number 63779, then they kept building them and numbering them until the first day of January 69, when they manufactered number 64779?

So if your VIN falls in the range between 63779 and 64779, then it was made in Dec 68.

Also, I am not sure, but I think they would number them in Japan and not use a seperate number for each country that it was going to. I think this because on the CCOT link that you reference, if you do the math for 1973 as an example, Japan produce 24,148 VIN's. But the same CCOT reference says that only 11,218 40's and 55's came into the US. That makes me think that the VIN on a 40 series will not necessarily tell you where it originally sold first.

Just my observations.

Darn, gonna have to dig some more! I have seen letter designators for things such as soft top and I believe RHD but like I said I will have to dig some more

Copenhagen1 seems to have answered the q

yes, Copenhagen1, that format would include my vin. as far as the Aussie issue goes...when i got the vehicle from the 1st owner, I am the second...they wrote a note that said, "vehicle was imported from Autrallia in March of 1969 and sold to us in Lake Tahoe Neveda." I really dont care one way or the other. it's mine now. somethings are different. the only ID vin wise, is on the frame. the steering is left hand, like here in the USA. The original wiring was "wild" with more options than a sow with one little piggy left home. thanks guys.
