The front seats, upholstery / padding in my 98 Limited 4runner are shot. I really don't want to just put some bad fitting seat covers over them. Does anybody have a recommendation for purchasing the whole seats (used obviously.) Thought I'd ask you guys before I started calling wrecking yards....

Thanks!

There is a website called car-part.net or something like that. It scans all of the wrecking yards in your area.

Is having them reupholstered an option? I would call around to some of the reputable upholstery shops in your area and get a few quotes. You should also ask to see some pictures of their work. It might save you some money over buying used seats and having to ship them.

My seats in my 05 4Runner are being reupholstered and so far I'm very happy. I'm unsure as to the cost if you just go with stock material cause I'm having mine redone with marine sailboat canvas. Needless to say its not cheap for me, but high-end covers were only a quarter cheaper so I went with real deal.

There is a guy on ebay that sells new seat bottom covers for the front seats. They are a bit pricey, but they look totally stock, and are cheaper than having it done professionally. A couple guys on T4R.org have used them and love them. Here a link to the thread over there that talks about (ignore the BS about MB leather...).

Your seats look nice. That turned out well.

Do you have to convert your speedo to read in knots after doing this? Or refer to the sides of your vehicle as "starboard" and "port" ?

What made you choose that material? Is it water resistant?

It rains a-lot where we're moving (it's tropical) and it's also really dirty, not to mention my workers there are hmmmmm...pretty dirty as well (they don't shower much). :D Anyway yes it's water resistant (the water just beads up on it) and it has a 10 year warranty outside in the sun and salt water air...so it should last forever in my rig. It's also a pretty stiff material and according to the installer it's super tear resistant. ;)

I like it. Did you come up with the idea yourself or did you hear about it elsewhere?

I wanted military canvas and the guy swayed me to this and I love it.

That would have been cool too, but I think your rig is too new for that. I like what you used. It compliments the interior nicely.

seats

Would any other seats fit in our runners, say landcruiser or sequioa? I guess i could go out and measure the wifes! My driver seat is shot, like wore out, not just the leather the whole seat!!

I installed seatback foam from a *passenger side* '98 4Runner seat into my *driver's side* seat. My foam was all boned out from the PO and passenger seats are rarely used. This is a lot of work, but really improved the seat comfort. Even though the part numbers are different, the pass. side foam perfectly fits the driver's side seatback. I didn't do the seatbottoms, due to lack of time/desire.
