I’ve noticed the lx470 roof rack is a bit shorter than the LC. I’m not wanting to do anything extreme with the roof, but would like to carry a paddle board or a kayak (10-13ft) easily up there.

Would it be more prudent to get a prospeed/Gamiviti style rack or would it be better to get a Yakima 3 bar set up?

This is a daily driver, so my priorities are fitting in the garage, as low as possible wind noise, and as low as possible hassle factor.

I have searched, but haven’t seen anything that addresses the lx stubby roof rack and the preferred replacement.

Any recommendations welcomed and appreciated.

Hi @willc

Same being daily driver and was looking for solution Tha allows me to fit in the garage and also in these tiny little underground garages in Europe - hate'em 😁

The best solution I got and thanks to this forum here is with the Rhino Rack and using the LOW feet. The rack is I would say not higher than original.

I do have an Alu Cab 270 awning mounted and my LC is in AHC position low 207cm high in total. This is great solution.

Haven't found anything lower.

Choosing the right rack is really individual based on your priorities. I also mount my SUP on top using straps. With the new Rhino Rack generation this is easy to install using the "O" screws.

on the Rhino Rack site it doesn't say the low legs are compatible with the 100. Do you have a link to the feet you made work?
No worries, it's most likely because of the different leg positioning between LC100 and Lexus 470. In fact my rack is mounted onto the LX470 position, as the LC100 position which is more in the front is not certified for roof racks 2m in length. Don't ask why...

I purchased:
Rhino Rack Pioneer 6 Gepäckplattform 62104, 2100 x 1430 mm, schwarz

Set Rhino Rack Fußkit RCL6 37mm (abschließbar)

Set Rhino Rack Basiskit RCP02-BK für Toyota LC 100

that looks great- how is the noise with it? I love my current quiet ride so I'm not too thrilled to get a bunch of whistling or howling from a new roof rack. @Brummel

Oh and 4 legs or 6? I've read people talk about the 3 bar system, but it sounds like you're saying with the rhino rack, it's not supposed to be mounted too far forward. Did I understand that correctly? Thank you!

I wouldn't call it noise, it's of course louder than w/o a rack, but the new generation is doing well I would say. If you have stuff mounted on top, then it's naturally louder. Also when having just the awning mounted like me, you have air turbulences and yes you hear it. But again, when you have just the rack, it's absolutely fine. I start recognizing it when driving faster than 100kmh but no issue having a discussion with passengers. Altogether I could be far worse, Rhino has done a good job.

I am using 6 legs. Two mounted at the back fitting, two in the middle and the other two mounted into the LX470 holes. Rhino delivers all the meterial required to do the job properly. One thing I do strongly recommend is, go and purchase a "silicone" (don't know the English word for it). I used SIKAFLEX 522. This you squeeze it into your mounting holes upfront before putting the screw into it. With this magic SIKAFLEX, it's gonna completely sealed against water or similar from the outside.

Don't use the Vortex bars from Rhino, not required. These are just lifting your rack and additionally it weighs more. You just need the three things I linked you above. That's it.

I bought the dimensions linked above because it's the most common one and I don't regret it. You should definitely NOT go for a tighter one! The lengths you can choose but do not go tighter because then the leg option would n ot longer work and you have to choose the Vortex bars.
