Would like to get a new set of tires/rims for my LX. Not happy with how fast my 20" tires wear out, so I think I'd like to go with the 18" TRD combo from the tundra. Is this the way to go, or is there a better setup?

Maybe I misremembered, are there only 17" TRD wheels? These are direct, no problem bolt ons, right?

The 17" TRD wheels are indeed direct, no problem bolt-ons.
You will need to use different lug nuts, however, with conical seating surfaces and small diameter:
Recommended tire size from Toyota is LT285/70R17E for a 32.8" diameter tire.
