I amnew to your forum and have looked for this information as I am sure it has been discussed many times but found only recommendations for serious off-road tires. I need to replace the original tires on my UZJ2003 P275/60/R18; 111H; M&S. I live on a gravel road in Wyoming and it will become muddy and some snow as Winter arrives. However I desire to have excellent serivce on the hard pavements. I realize that the tire must be a compromise. I have used Micheln tires with no complaints on my other Toy's but I have found only 1 tire "Pilot XTL" for this size by this company and it does not appear to be a M&S type tire. Your recommendations please.

Roger

I would recommend a different set of wheels in 16in for the winter (you can get a set on Ebay). There’s much more tire options in a 16in size.

Welcome to the 100 forum!

I would suggest you look up some of the Consumer Reports type of sites / mags, plus the tire review sites / info, like on tirerack.com .

I would suggest you step up to a 275/65-18 size where there are a lot more choices. It is about 1" taller at 32" diameter or ~3% which will not pose any problems. Just be sure to get 5 tires so that they are all the same diameter.

The Bridgestone Revo is a great AT tire with very good road manners. But if low noise, smooth riding, hard wearing are your highest priorities, look into highway all-season such as the Bridgestone H/L Alenza or Yokohama Geolander H/T-S, both are M+S rated.

I just purchased from Tirerack : Bridgestone H/L Alenzas 275/65-18 for my 2000 LC that I just upgraded to 18 inch wheels off a 2005. Looks GREAT! They ride real nice! Great in rain - haven't had in snow yet. I have the Bridgestone Revos on my 02 4Runner- they are more aggressive & little bit noisier than Alenza. Look awesome on 4Runner. Bridgestone just started $75 rebate on set (Revos or Alenzas).
Read the reviews. They are very helpful.

If excellent service on hard surface is important, I would probably go w/ Alenzas.

I was a Michelin man for many years! Bridgestone has won me over!!

I have used both Bridgestone Dueler ATs and HTs on my 4Runner. I was very happy with both, but I'm going to probably go with the HTs when the Dunlops wear out on my LC. The noise and highway life on the HTs is better than the ATs, and I don't sport offroad.

It doesn't snow in Dallas (usually) though, so I'd check CR's recs.

Toyo Open Country has a fairly new size 275/70/18 which gives you a 33" tire and nice tread pattern. I haven't had the pleasure of getting them in the snow yet. They are more expensive though. Very quiet on road but seem a little stiff (E rating) when you hit the potholes. All I have to compare to are the Passenger stock tires. I was vey happy with Michelin MTX on my 4runner.

BFG just came out with a few new sizes for 18" rims, one of which is a 285/65/18 AT KO's I think would work good in your situation.

I bought Michelin Pilot LTX in 275/60-R18 for summer use. I like them and for most normal uses should be great. For winter, I bought 16 inch rims off ebay and hakkipilleta (sp?) studded tires which are pretty impressive on ice and deep snow.

Welcome to the board.

I am extremely pleased with Bridgestone Revos. Can't speak highly enough of them. However I have 16" rims. My wife's 06 will be due for new tires soon (I hope, hate the Dunlops) and I will be looking for 18" tires. I heard today that Bridgestone might have released new sizes. I will be looking for them.

Love Wyoming, want to move there. Wife and I stayed at Crystal Lake Reservoir in August while driving back to CA from a family reunion in Minnesota.
