my FSM said like 189 or somthing like that.... it was different than what you said?

Well since this is the unofficial “timing belt thread” I wanted to post this here… I have bought all the SST tools required to do this job. I wanted to extend the offer to mud member as a loaner program. I would probably require deposit on paypal or something as the tools are over $400.00 for everything, which I would refund 100% minus any fees, so you would just have to pay that and shipping… probably all the tools for under $20.00. I reserve the right to accept or deny to loan to anyone based on your Mud credentials…. Just hoping to help a few guys out on Mud as many many of you have helped me over the years!!!

It may have been one of the older ones that said 184, and usually that's only in the water pump illustration section, every where else is 217. But at some point in time between the T-100 and tacoma, the spec was updated to 300 Nm (217ft lbs). So make sure you have the correct spec, because it's important to at least get to there, a little more is fine. Personally I'd torque to the updated spec. http://www.motor.com/MAGAZINE/Articles/012007_04.html

Now the 3.slows were torqued to 189ft lbs. If you peruse on yotatech you'll run across some threads where the old spec was used, and the crank pulley started coming loose. ie knock tapping front of 3.4 solved finally! - YotaTech Forums
Hence the reason it was updated. If I haven't convinced you to torque to the correct updated spec yet, then at the first sign of noise you need to at least check it. :D

And WOW, that's a lot of money in specialty tools. Maybe there's a Toyota mechanic looking for some gently used SSTs. That's almost an arb bar, or SAWs, or tires, or skids..

yea... I wanted the tools so not worried about making any money off them... just wanted to see if I could help anyone out....

I did torque higher than 189 that I mentioned... maybe like 200 or so...
