Today I completed the installation of the Audi seats in my LX450. You can read the whole process here.

Cheers

Well done! Is there an armrest on your new seats? That's on my new seat wishlist.

Clean! How do they feel over stock? Ride height any different?

No, these don't have armrests on them. I'll be replacing the center console eventually, I'll tackle the armrest situation there.

Those look great.

Thanks

They're slightly higher up than stock. Consequently, they're much more comfortable for my legs. I'm 6'2" and sit in them with plenty of head room. If I raised the rear of the seats all the way, my head would touch the ceiling, but there is a lot of adjustment in the Audi seats. These are the Audi "Comfort" Seats, and the name is apt, they feel great.

I finished up with the work that the PO started with a similar set of Audi seats in my LX. The 6" buckle extension seems like a better solution than trimming down the buckle like I did. ProjectsNmotion do you have a part number for the extension you ordered from seat belt planet? I'm not coming up with anything in a search.

Also, maybe I did a poor job installing them but as a word of caution for anyone else looking to do this mod, my new seats contact the door pocket. It's enough that it seems to prevent the door close button from being fully engaged and the dome light flickers on when the door is leaned on by the passenger. Regardless, there is very little room between the seat and the door both for reaching the seat controls or reaching into the door pockets. However there was a huge improvement in ride comfort. We just took a 12 hour trip and between the look and feel, it's like a new car.

EDIT: The dome light flickering was unrelated to the seats. It turns out, the striker was loose on the door pillar.

I'm in the process of fitting the same seats. I have the passenger seat in and haven't found this to be a problem.
I have the seats as tight to the trans tunnel as possible. I cut away part of the stiffening rib from the floor pan to make more room for the rails.
Will have the driver side in today

Are you able to run the Factory Rear Heater or did you remove it when you put the Audi Seats in ?

The rear heater is still in place and still functions. But I'll eventually remove it, I'm not sure how well the heat from the heater will treat the electronics on the underside of the new passenger seat, they're fairly close to each other.

Feeling like there’s cosmic resistance to tech being posted on this forum. Total worth checking out the detailed link, very well written! Excellent mod thanks for sharing!

@ProjectsNMotion

Are you sure that under seat flip out drawer is really for roaches instead of dildos? :smokin:

I know this project was a long time ago for you but I’m actually about to put in Audi A6 seats in my LX450 also. I ordered Planted seat brackets so hopefully they attach smoothly.
My question is so you have how you did the wiring of the seat?
Thanks, Doug

Do you have a diagram of how you did the wiring is what I meant to ask.

I'll have to look around, I took some notes when I did it, but I can't say how complete they were.
I want to say mine had 3 plugs.
  • One for airbags - I think it only had two or three wires and I think the connector was bright yellow. You probably want to cut the wires and tape that one up out of the way.
  • One for the seat heaters - you can actually control this a few different ways, but the way Audi does it is there was a power wire, a ground for that, a signal wire (for a temp sensor) and a signal ground. You can wire this all up with a little control module that the VW group used across a ton of models. Someone did a thread on it, at one point that I roughly followed and it worked like a charm for me. The controller has like 4 or five settings, so you can cook your ass or just take the chill off. With a little trimming, those modules replaced a pair of the coin holders in the console.
  • One for the main seat motor power. If I remember right, there are 4 relevant wires: Power, ground, power for the "courtesy light" for the rear passenger area, and ground for the light. All the rest of the wires were position feedback stuff so you can have saved seat positions. I think you'd need the Audi ECU for that, so I just ignored all of those. There's definitely no "smart" circuitry built into the seats. The controls on the side of the seat do everything else.
If I remember what I did, I tied all the grounds together, ran the seat heater stuff to those VW modules, ran a wire for the light that I intend to hook up one day with the dome light, then power for the motors. This is all from memory mind you, so I won't swear to every bit of that, but it's mostly right. It was a lot of wire splicing, but I'm extremely comfortable with that stuff. If you want, I can look around for my notes, but I'm at a total loss at the moment, which means I probably put them someplace really clever. I will say, having a decent 12v power supply was really helpful because I worked it all out via process of elimination... Except the airbag circuit - I did some searching to make sure I knew which one that was so I wouldn't blow up my seats!

It's funny, I've never had seat heaters before and I almost didn't bother with them, but they're awesome in the winter. I can stay super comfy with the windows down while snow wheeling... Totally worth it.

I appreciate the response and feel confident I can get it wired up pretty easily now. I also love a heated seat, nothing like it sometimes. Thanks again for responding and good memory recall!
