I need to replace all 4 tires on my LX470 with P275/70R16. Full size spare is from 2000, never touched. I don't plan on off-roading but will drive in mountains and snow. I have heard that all tires should be replaced after 10 years regardless of wear. Many people seem to forget about the spare when they replace tires. Seems like I should replace the spare with a new one too? Or just keep the old one and roll the dice?

If I replace, would normal tire shop give me the old spare (I assume they would, its mine). Is there a market for these old tires or should I forget about it?

Buy 5 new, and rotate the spare in with regular rotations. Then you won't end up with a useless
'new' spare. 10 yr tire, not worth much, but yes, it is yours.

5 new tires would be the ideal, but I think most of us keep the best looking tire that is on the road now and have that one mounted as the spare.

Rubber ages too, perhaps not as much with today's compounds as it used to, but how much is your saftey worth.

Replace all 5 and rotate in the spare. I haven't and kicking myself in the arse for now having a brand new KM2 sitting up on the rear bumper and the other four at about 50%. Too much wear to start rotating in the spare now I think.
