You can only access the tab with the screw from inside the vehicle. Your options are removing the moulding and breaking that tab (I believe this is what most choose), or removing the interior trim pieces and removing the screw.

Finally got around to doing the prado window trim this morning. I was waiting for parts to arrive - my amayama order is stuck in purgatory of US Customs but partsouq was able to get the same parts to me in a week through fedex A+.

The rear quarter windows do open enough for a trim tool or screwdriver to remove the plastic clip in the tab of the quarter window mountings. There is only one Phillips screw holding the back of the quarter window to the bracket arm. It’s the screw behind the lock/lever. Mine (driver + passenger) we’re not very tight so you could probably get them out with just a Phillips bit and some pliers or your fingers. I had a right angle screwdriver but probably not necessary. You don’t need to crank the screws down or you might put too much pressure/stress on the glass.

I highly recommend taping the bump/cap on the outside of the quarter window.

If you don’t, then when the screw on the inside comes loose, the bump will fall out and roll into the grass, leading to 5 minutes of searching. Ask me how I know

After the screw is out, you can push/roll the window about this much forward. Opening the window further causes a good bit of tension on the glass.

There’s around a hand or finger’s thickness/space. You can fit a flat plastic trim tool in the gap to pop the plastic clip out. Or you could probably use a small screwdriver as well.

I installed the quarter trim pieces without the plastic clips - I broke them during removal. But the tab should be secure since it’s sandwiched between the body and window. Also, I put some RTV around the three vertical clips that snap to the body. There’s a video on YouTube that shows water ingress through those holes when/if the weatherstripping starts to tear and deteriorate.

My hope is to just pop out the quarter window and roll it forward to access the tab on the trim. I have too many things bolted/screwed into the rear quarter panels to make it worth it for me to remove all of them to just access the tab on the window trim.

From what I can tell, the only thing the tab on the window trim does is prevent thieves from pulling the trim off of the GX. The three plastic clips along the bottom of the window trim are sufficient to hold it in place. If removing the quarter window is too complicated or doesn’t allow me to access the tab on the window trim, I’ll just break the tab and install without it.

I simply yanked those strips out of the clips, popped the window open, pulled it out enough to cut the bolt-through tab above the window line. I cut off the tab and popped the new black trim in. No issues at all for me. My .02
