Has anyone replaced an oil pump on a 100 series while it was still in the truck?

I've checked the FSM and step one says "remove the engine". I don't want to remove the engine if I don't have to.

Here's the background: I'm replacing the steering rack and in the process of removing the oil cooler/filter assembly a bolt broke (the one that is closest to the front and exposed to the environment) and remained in the oil pump housing. I drilled it out and f***ed up the hole.

I will try to enlarge the hole and install a threaded insert, but just in case that fails I want to know what I'm in for.

Thanks for your time.

I took a look at the full pump removal process in the FSM and it does look like the engine has to come out to get that pump off the front of the crankshaft. Is there any chance you could tow the truck to a machine shop and get that hole drilled/insert/tapped (or whatever is doable) while it's in the truck? Unless you have skills/tools for that type of thing, it might be best to call in a pro?

I'll send this to the top again to see if anyone has pulled this off.

There seems to be sufficent room underneath the truck to manipulate the pieces off... What I can't determine is wether there's an issue with rear where it connects to the transmission.

Any update? Anyone know if the oil pump could be resealed without pulling the motor and the lower pans?
Wondering if you could take all the bolts out and slide back enough to clean and new fipg?
