Tex..as...Ohhhh...Texas!!!
I am well versed in mechanical endeavors & have all the tools (assuming it does not require a SST)...just wondering who has done it themselves, and if it is worth the 2.5hrs of dealership labor that they quoted me.

Thanks,

Not hard but you will have to pull the fan shroud straight up with the fan...I assume that's where most of the 2.5 hours shop time is coming from.

BTW if the issue with the fan clutch is lack of locking up you can easily take the clutch apart, drain the old silicone fluid out of it (this takes a couple days of drain time usually) and then refill with RC car silicone fluid (available in different viscosities...called "CST" in the RC world). Worked for me.

I was able to remove the fan (sans clutch) without having to remove the shroud. It took a little bit of finessing/rotating of the blade. However, this process would be 1) remove fan off vehicle then 2) remove clutch off vehicle... as opposed to removing the fan/clutch (and shroud) as one unit. Not sure which is easier.

^^^ you're a better man than me :D

I couldn't get the darn fan out of mine without taking the shroud with it...guess I need a lesson from you ;). That would've saved me a ton o'cuss'n

Also: Which ever way you do it...its a good idea to cut a piece of cardboard that's about the same size as the radiator so you don't inadvertently flatten fins getting the fan in/out.

alright...that is what I was thinking...Just wanted to make sure I was on track.

Same dealer quoted me an additional 1hr of labor to replace the thermostat...wanted to make sure they were on the up & up w/regard to the clutch.

Thanks,

There might be some guidance in the timing belt writeups about getting the fan out.
