There have been a lot of posts recently from newer members asking about reliability for this or that. I thought that perhaps we could share our experiences on repairs we've made on our rigs so people can get an idea of what they can expect. This would be repairs, not maintenance or mods. (no tires, brakes, oil changes, t-belts, lifts, bumpers, dual battery setups, etc)

I put down 2 categories of repairs because many of you maintain your rig yourself.

Year rig, miles:

Years owned:

DIY Repairs:
Cost:
or

Shop Repairs:
Cost:

Total in Repairs:

Other costs: (mods, etc)

Let me know if you think it would be beneficial or organize this another way.

I guess there's the need to differential between 'repair', 'necessary PM', and 'exuberant PM'. I probably have $150 in the middle category and $500 in the latter. Tires and upgrades, of course, are on top of that. The only thing that has truly broken has been the Antenna, but I've yet to buy a replacement. The $60 is for boots.

I had thought about 'necessary PM', and 'exuberant PM' but then figured that every vehicle has this. However, the LC may be a bit more expensive with it's preventative maintenance than others. That's why I figured we leave out things like timing belts, hose changes, fluid flushes, etc.

Nice!!

It'll be interesting to see how your VW and Audi hold up at 7 years 125k miles.

Year rig, miles: 1998, apx 235k

Years owned: In family since new, mine for 3 years

DIY Repairs:Antenna
Cost:$60?
or

Shop Repairs:All AHC related: attempted repair, attempted level, diagnosis, etc etc (not in my care at the time)
Cost: between at least 5 trips, $1,000+ with no resolution

Total in Repairs:$1,000+ if you count AHC, $60 if you don't.
There is no reliability question to me, once the ahc is gone.:wrench:

This is a great thread and shows a different side to LC ownership costs. It also supports Consumer Reports picking the LC (most years for the 100 series) as a "Good Bet."

That said, while the t-belt is officially PM it isn't in the real world. It is required. What would the repair cost be if the belt breaks and valves get bent?

Its also a known fact that bad bearings in the water pump and/or it leaking can also cause the timing belt to jump. Hence the recommendation to replace it while the engine is apart for the t-belt. An easy $900 or more for all of this fun classified as preventative - but not required.

I know some folks will say "I haven't done my t-belt or water pump and I have ten million miles on my LC." Maybe that's a survey for a different thread; how many people haven't done their t-belts and have survived (thus far) to tell their story?

----Additional: I've done about 150 bucks worth of maintenance (rust removal/proofing, air filter/CAF, etc.) which I would consider actual necessary maintenance as not doing it would lead the vehicle to be less than desirable.

Had Slee take out the AHC and put in standard OME suspension. Didn't necessarily need to be done, but I'm very happy I did. Cost: 1750ish after complete removal of AHC parts.

and

Shop Repairs:
Front CV boots@ 101,684 mi
Cost: $400.88 ($64 in parts, should've DIY'ed, wife took to dealer )

Total in Repairs: $613.16

Biggest items on a 100 will always be maintenance like tires and t-belt/water pumps every 90k. I have around $3200 in tires & $1200 in t-belts/pumps over the life of the vehicle, still not complainin' though!

My average for unscheduled repairs is ~$0.002-0.003/mile.

My total average expense on the 100 is $0.02/mile for ALL maintenance and repairs over the life of the vehicle. Keep in mind this is an average at 207,000 which is skewed slightly b/c I just came off of my 2nd 90k service at 201,000 bumping my average $ up for awhile. I could've shown the cost at 200,000 and skewed it the other way by omitting the 2nd 90k service but what good would that do!

or

Shop Repairs: Multi-Function Display Screen, Windshield
Cost: $130.00 (The Toyota Extended Warranty covered the MFD replacement costs)

My CV boots are leaking a bit so that is a future cost I have to be concerned with. I plan on getting those done when I take the LC to Slee for the timing belt.

2000 LX 470 187,000 miles

TOTAL FOR THIS: I don't want to put this number together. That could be a DLE (divorce level event)
