Well I got the repack done this past weekend and everything went really smooth, or so i thought, when in 4WD it sounds fine but when i disconnect my Aisin hubs i get some bad noises: clunks and grinds, so i'm thinking something has got to be wrong with the hubs or the way i put them back on, any ideas? or maybe if someone has a blowup out of a fsm of how these things go together that would be great, Thanks Brad.

Yes they are on the truck and they turn to Free and Lock like they are working, if anyone did have a blowup of the hub assembly it would be out of an earlier FSM, ie: 40, 60, or 62 series, Brad.

YOu really need to drop the drive line, that way nothing turns and wear is not realized on some important parts. Only you know if you messed up in the repack of the front axle. If you want to look at some thing to help the hubs, look to a mini truck manual from the 80's. That would help you. later robbie

Brad, sure I go on vacation to Maine, miss your packing party and now it's all screwed up!! :)

How does the vehicle handle, if you lift the tire off the ground can you grab the tire shake violently and nothing loose, nothing clanking? If so, and if driving it feels fine, then the knuckle stuff should be fine. But the birfield could have issues. Didn't you put in new Birfs, or atleast reman ones? I remember you saying you were going to pull the ones in there out and replace them.

There is not alot that could have gotten messed up in there and have it all still go together. My first guess would be to look at the hubs, I think you have Aisin ones like mine can kinda come apart, the clunk you hear might be the hub not totally disengaging, so the axle will spin and just be catching slightly on the hub.

Let me know if you want any help..

Mark - Are you back? Yeah i'm pretty confident that i correctly did the repack, i had Shawn help me on one side and i did the other, it's gotta be those friggin springs in the hubs, i'm almost positive the birfs are ok because i only get clunking when the front end is disconnected, i sent you pm, Brad.

Brad did you replace the short shafts/birf? If so you could have late model ones that are longer and can come in contact with the dial portion of the Asian hub.

Phil - I didn't even think of that! I think they are the old style birfs because they didn't have the ABS ring on them, but i don't really know, i bought the birfs over a year ago from Spectre so i don't have any receipts left to check, good thought though, Brad.

the lack of abs ring does not make it the older style. the am ones specter had were the newer style if memory serves. you might need to shim out the hub by a bit to make the stub end clear the end of the birf.
