I know there are threads about various aspects of a troopy roof but my question is more basic than I've found on posts. I need to take my roof off to repair or replace my rain gutter. I have two questions:

1. I assume, like most things outside of some plumbing, turning the bolts counter clockwise is correct. I've already busted on bolt but I assume that is because it was stuck in place. I have tried loosening another and it loosens a bit and then gets tight again (same thing other direction). I'm afraid I might be breaking half or all of the bolts. Is that a big problem? (not sure where the threaded section is going)

2. The only bolts go along the panels up to the doors. After that, I don't see any bolts to remove. Are there some or is there something else I need to do to get the top off?

Also, while I'm at it, I had a 5-speed tranny put in and so the tranny cover needs replacement. I'm replacing it with a fiberglass one w/o cutouts from City Racer. When I took off the old cover, I saw this electrica line and connection. What does it go to and how do you separate the connection to clean the ends? My tach works intermittingly (usually after 15 minutes of driving and then can stop all of a sudden) so just wondering if these wires might have anything to do with it--bad connection, dirty, etc.).

Thanks!

the tach has three wires and the rpm sensor is located at the bellhousing.
What you see on your box is the reverse light sensor. You might need to get your tach calibration checked if you think its not running accurately or check the sensor at the left side of the bellhouse at 3 o'clock.

As far as removing bolts, soak them in the penetrating oil of you choice, get comfortable and start removing them back and forth, back and forth, did I mention back and forth? I removed my top last year and this was my method. Time consuming but I only broke two of the badly rusted bolts. I then ran a tap through the holes to clean up the threads. When I put the top back on, I used new bolts with antisieze on the threads. I could run them down finger tight and a final snug with the wrench.

Thanks Koxfarm. Is the 3 o'clock perspective from looking at the bell housing from the rear or the front of the cruiser? (probably obvious when I go under--in six weeks when I get back in the country)

Skidplate, I managed to get the roof off with just the one bolt broken off once I learned from my mistake. I haven't put it back on though so will plan to do the same as you--antiseize on them.
