I had removed the black tray that is at the bottom of the cluster by pulling it strait out, be careful as you need to disconnect the dimmer switch. you'll need to depress the tang and slide it out.

Then there is 4 tiny phillips screws at the bottom, two on each side. The tabs on the left side were very brittle and broke when I removed them.

At the top of the cluster is two #2 phillips that need to be removed.

There is a tab in the top middle and bottom middle that clips in to the head. I pulled gently and it released, then tilted the cover to me and pulled it out.

It was filthy, many tiny brush marks I am sure from rags in the past.

A little C4 may have gotten it off cleaner?
Its a bit frustrating. I came super close to breaking the clear on mine when changing over to LEDs. Just saved it.
Maybe some hobby store thickened iso cyanurate glue will save most of it. The broken screws can be replaced.
Sorry....as if that's any frikin comfort, right?

I have an extensive amount of 3M products for detailing, so I used a very fine finishing polish and a fine foam pad on low speed. I made sure there was sufficient product on the pad so it wouldn't heat up. Then I finished it off with a new fine wool pad. After It got a hot bath with dawn soap. I wash gently with my fingers, no towel! Then using a horse hair brush to make sure all polish was removed from mating parts and edges. Dried with a new diaper and set in the sun.

I almost pulled the whole thing out, but I gave it a tug after unscrewing the bottom screws and it didn't want to fall out, so I left it in. Another day maybe,

I did, it felt like a harness had a firm grip, and with the day I was having I wasn't going to chance it.

You should take the cluster out for this operation....

There are 4 screws, two bottom and two top (which you got). Then there are the two shinny 10mm head bolts... theses never tighten nor do they come out. They are essentially a worm drive to seat the electrical connectors of the cluster. Just loosen them, a little on each side as you go. eventually you'll hear the connectors come free.... then wiggle the cluster out to the left side - it's tight.

Once it's out then remove the lens :D

Since the cluster is out you might as well do my locker indicator mod http://tlcfaq.com/main/2012/05/factory-switch-to-control-air-lockers-part-2/

Nice work Shane. Details on pad/product used would be nice when you get the time.

Would be interested in the name of the product and pad. As i want to do the same on my 80 and echo
