My 2003 got side swiped and the running board on the passenger side took a beating. I had been considering taking them off on both sides anyway - is this something a novice like myself can do? Or should I take it to a local shop?

Also, I have kids - so if the wife requires running boards any advice on where to source a replacement?

Thank you.

They come off easy, as long as the bolts aren't rusted. It's easiest to do by yourself if you remove the step from the bracket and then remove the bracket from the frame.

LKQ or Pull-a-part would be easiest for you. Shipping for these will be more than the part is worth, if you try to source it somewhere outside ATL.
